And then there are the harms caused when #humans introduce #NonnativePlants & animals or #chemicals such as #herbicides & #fungicides to fragile #ecosystems. That exacerbates losses in #biodiversity that leave surviving populations more vulnerable to #illness, acc/to research published Wednesday in the journal Nature.

Probably won't be boosting much for a week or so.... I found out I have shingles today, which is bullshit because I'm basically a decade away from qualifying for the shingles vaccine 😞 So if you follow me for boosts... I'm not dead, I'll be back when I can find a comfortable position besides standing.

Did you know that #homesickness was once known as '#Swiss Disease'?

The word was first mentioned in 1651 & described as an #illness in 1688.

In 1710, it was claimed that music of Swiss #Alpine herdsmen & the Guggisberglied (a #folk song), led Swiss soldiers to desert. The singing of the same resulted (allegedly) in capital #punishment.

One doctor thought that the low air pressure made the Swiss sick with longing & would lead, if not returned home, to their eventual #death.

Please understand that it takes A LOT of personal work, from us #polio survivors who now live with PPS. #PPS is a long recognized #illness. Yet, many of us who suffer from it, find it difficult to get knowledgeable medical help to manage it well.

If you have #LongCovid, I have bad news for you. You're gonna have to adapt/manage best you can because govt & #medical ppl won't help you much. Both of those entities knew about PPS for decades, yet ppl like me still have to fight to get help.

END THE CRUEL IDITAROD RACE THAT DRIVES DOGS TO INJURY AND DEATH

Three young dogs died during the 2024 Iditarod. Several other #dogs suffered #injuries, #illness, and #exhaustion during the gruesome two-week, 1000-mile race that forces dogs to haul a sled while racing through treacherous Alaskan territory in sub-freezing temperatures.

Five additional dogs died and eight more were injured in collisions with snowmobiles while training for the 2024 event.

"Widely varying guidance on when to keep children home has only added to the confusion, which many see as a factor in the nationwide epidemic of chronic school absences. Some advocates and school systems — and the state of California — are now encouraging kids to come to class even when they have the sniffles or other nuisance illnesses like lice or pinkeye."

Why do people seem to be getting #sick more often now?

For yet another year we are already seeing earlier and significantly higher #hospital #admissions for #respiratory #illness than pre-pandemic levels. Are there new mysterious #pathogens starting to attack us now? 🧵 1/

A mysterious illness has been sickening dogs and flummoxing veterinarians across the United States. Now, researchers at the University of New Hampshire say the cause could be a new type of bacterial infection that evades the canine immune system. While there is still a lot unknown about the new germ, experts are cautioning dog owners to keep their pets out of kennels and dog parks to prevent potential spreading. Read more from NBC News.

I'd welcome your input please - wondering which colour photography accounts I should follow that are exploring any/all of;

Subjects around; illness, disease, isolation, health

Or more broadly: art documentary, conceptual and abstract, environmental portraits

Many thanks, and please forgive me if I don't follow all suggestions - I'm honing my influences and inspiration for a specific project.

Thanks!

TW: Mild discussion of chronic health issues and grief.

I really miss being able to play MMO's, especially #WoW. I cannot cognitively keep up with worlds like that anymore and it makes me sads.

Everything feels like a job, a chore, a huge undertaking. When I can only spend about an hour a day playing a game (thanks, health)... that's just not it for me anymore. No more long play sessions.

Does anyone else out there feel this sort of grief related to #Illness?

So far I’m staying healthy, and fingers crossed it stays that way. But cold and flu season has most definitely begun.

People are unaware of the devastating consequences of working when you are sick. By 40 most Americans are inexplicably exhausted, obese and unhappy. Working while sick or very tired is deadly. There are few ways to truly recover after a lifetime of abuse by capitalism. We should never teach children to go to school when they're not feeling well. This does not spoil them. Having a big screen TV in three rooms of the house, a toy room, spoils them Resting does not #sick #covid #illness #disability
