How do you feel about duplicate links in articles, blogs, whatever? Meaning: A certain word is a link (let's say "HEALTH") leading to an external website.
Would it annoy you if this word was always a link and it's mentioned for example 20 times in an article? Or would you rather have it only once to make it easier to scan for links?
please help octo! she needs to pay her monthly bills including rent, debt payments, and college expenses. she's struggling with parental abuse. anything helps!
i am genuinly worried about the changes bill shorten wants to introduce to ndis they are being dressed up as “helping disabled people” and “making the ndis more flexible” but its actually reducing how much money plans have and reducing what we can do with funding, treating ndis as a business. not to mention dehumanizing disabled people by requiring regular checkins to prove you are still disabled enough i mean “assess if you still need supports”
Because my partner and I keep running into financial issues we've started a mutual aid on GiveButter and have the money set to where we cannot touch it until it is time to apply for my new Visa.
Please, donate if you can, even if it's just $1. I'd really like to remain in my partner's country as the only other option is homelessness and being separated again. 💔
The move back to the office is certainly underway, with working from home being de-normalised & back to an exception (if now more frequent).
But what is the impact on those who for health or mobility reasons are only able to work from home.
In many ways WFH was (accidentally?) a boon for 'disabled' employment, allowing many to access jobs that would have been difficult if attendance at office was required.
How will their opportunities fare in the move away from WFH?
it's late, i'm tired, but i'm still in need: haven't been able to do my eye exam or replace my broken glasses. Keep me in your thoughts, throw me a dollar(literally singular) if you can via paypal and read my full needs on gfm
Yesterday I posted on the inhumanity of denial of PIP payments - which I'll repost shortly.
In response I received many testaments to individual experiences of this cruel & unjust system.
If you are in any doubt that the PIP system is being used to punish the disabled & is not fit for the purpose it is claimed to serve, then expand the next post to read these stories.
Your will be shocked, saddened, but also impressed by claimants resilience in the face of adversity such as this! #disability
I am either making friends or enemies with subject librarians at my university this week by requesting many purchases of books about queer and disabled community building/intimacy/materiality and arts.
Morning fam! It's the final push to make it to wednesday, and it's been over a week since my gfm got any attention.Sharing is the best way to help me out 🙏🏾💞
The idea of selling my home in Texas and moving elsewhere is unappealing at sixty-something years of age. I was born in the northeastern US and lived there until moving to Texas with my parents when I was just 5 years old. I have always had mixed feelings about that move. But 30+ years ago Texas conservatism was more about economics than race, religion, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Way back when, many Texas conservatives seemed to hold a live-and-let-live attitude that I could tolerate even as a lifelong liberal. But either they have changed or Texas conservatives are simply being more open about their bigotry than before. Texas conservatives no longer have qualms about interfering in the personal lives of others when doing so aligns with their own biases. Maybe Trump has enabled that, or Republicans have gradually enabled more of that since Ronald Reagan was president. As the father of an adult transgender daughter with special needs who relies on me for support, I understand why she feels not only unwelcome but outright unsafe in Texas. The results of the 2024 presidential election may determine whether I merely feel the need to move to a blue state or leave the country entirely. This decision is really weighing on me. But my ancestors immigrated to the USA from Europe and my parents relocated to Texas from the northeast. Maybe it is time for my family to move someplace where we would be happier.
If you're not sure about the cruelty, inhumanity & injustice in the PIP system of benefits for those impacted by various health & ability issues, then you need to work through my timeline this morning, with posts responding to a post I made about PIP refusals & appeals - my heart goes out to those who have posted, and further emphasises that there are parts of our state apparatus that are cruel, callous & inhumane, just because they can be...
Across the political Right, the narrative is that disability benefits (primarily Personal Independence Payments; PIPs) are too easy to get & are often paid to the 'undeserving'... however, in reality nearly half of applicants are rejected, rising to over two thirds for endometriosis (a gendered dimension I'll leave you to ponder), but with high rates of rejections over-turned on appeal (often with the same evidence).
Thinking about how ridiculous and harmful it would be to replace #PIP with any kind of voucher scheme. I regularly spend money on things to help with managing my #disability that aren't labelled as aids. Car parking because I can't walk far. Chunky boots so I feel more secure. Extra heating and a TV because often I can't leave the house. Phones for my kids so I can check in on them without climbing the stairs. Ready meals because cooking nope. A robot vacuum cleaner.
Contrary to recent Tory spin, the Department of Work & Pensions (DWP) is rejecting 40% of all Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claims.
Shockingly, these include:
50% with cerebral palsy
25% of amputees
40% with muscular dystrophy
45% with multiple sclerosis
This government continues its war on the disabled and vulnerable, purely to appeal to that portion of the electorate which has been taught to believe disability is a scam.
