#Antarctica might be thousands of kilometres away, but it affects us all like no other continent. As world leaders gather for the #COP28 climate summit, we bring you a report on how even the most remote place on Earth is beginning to crumble...
We’re super excited to announce the addition of 2 new Penguins to our (very local, plush) Penguin Colony: 2 Gentoo penguins (far right in photo) named GenOne & GenTwo. 😉 We now have 5 Emperor + 2 Gentoo Penguins! 😍 It’s probably the only penguin colony in Tucson, AZ, USA! 🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧
This Antarctic glacier dramatically retreated. Then, its ice shelf totally collapsed
Cadman Glacier in Antarctica retreated 5 miles in just 2.5 years, causing its ice shelf to collapse, according to scientists who used satellite images and ocean measurements. Higher ocean temperatures likely hastened the glacier’s deterioration, which contributes to global sea level rise. This indicates potential similar threats for neighboring glaciers.
I wonder if I can get away with making a map about Antarctica but without showing any part of it! 😉
I managed to do just that by showing how involved the countries of the world are in the coldest continent! (Again I used my favorite #CahillConcialdi map projection—any guesses as to what I’ll be doing for Day 30? 😂)
Shipping times vary. Same-ocean delivery may only take a few years, but delivery from the Weddell Sea in Antarctica may take multiple decades, and molecules meant for inland seas like the Mediterranean may be returned as undeliverable by surface currents.
Does #Europe know just how awesome the #BeyondEPICA project is?
Drilling an ancient#iceCore in a very remote and very cold part of #Antarctica...
