Guys. My mom was awake for her hip replacement. AWAKE. They gave an epidural and nerve block to the hip and leg, with some light sedation. She was like oh yeah I heard them hammering 😂 She woke up pain free and happy she had it done. PT tomorrow to see if she can escape the hospital by evening. Thanks for the well wishes and good juju!

Aside from a bruised ass and a marginally sprained pinky finger, I’m fine. In my head it was cartoonish, like slipping on a banana peel then sliding down several stairs before stopping. It’s a surreal feeling, falling down stairs and your brain is simultaneously like wtf this is happening and where the hell is the bottom?

My friend developed migraines around her periods after a gynecological procedure. Prior to this she had like 1 migraine in her life (does have a family history) and after she's had pretty debilitating headaches with each cycle. Like can't function, but acupuncture seems to be helping.

Went to the first neurologist who spent maybe 10 minutes with her, blew her off and said this wasn't a thing. Basically the "you're nuts/all in your head narrative."

Saw a second neurologist who spent almost an hour with her, validated what happened, offered a range of treatment options, and came up with a plan.

It's absolutely fucking insane how different your experience can be with the US healthcare system depending on the physician you sit in front of.

I used to read r/AITA periodically and thought about posting this for a while. @LRRRonEarth 's post about pandemic loss and rage made me think about this situation again. So, please dear fedifriends, AITA?

In May 2021, we planned a camping trip for September with 2 friends - one is my childhood friend I’ve known for 40 years, and other her husband who I’ve known for 20. We hung out all the time pre-pandemic. We booked a site in WI and forgot about it. 2-ish weeks prior, I get the reminder email from the campground and forward to our friends. Husband replies “yes! Can’t wait” and mentions having 2 campsites now and copies 2 additional couples, 1 with a kid the same age as my son (7 at the time).

I’d ditched FB in 2020 but I knew the couple with the kid was not being very cautious based on their FB posts. It was about 6 weeks until they were going to release the kids COVID vaccine and we had been incredibly careful. The kids did an entire year of zoom school, we didn’t go anywhere, etc. We could see the light at the end of the tunnel for our kids to have some protection.

I should mention in July 2021, we took a trip with another couple with 2 kids to a cabin in the UP. They were as careful as we were, and we agreed to a strict 2 week stay the fuck home protocol before we went. This comes up later.

So I get this email and text my childhood friend like hey, what’s up with adding people to the camping trip? I didn’t swear, I didn’t use all caps, I just asked. Then I expressed my concerns about having more people come, the timing with the vaccines, and that I didn’t appreciate them not asking us first. She got defensive, and brought up our trip to the cabin and why it was ok for us to go out with the other couple. I explained the steps we took and that I knew the couple with the kid was going around doing stuff even in 2020 and I was concerned.

She thought because it was outside, this was fine. Because kids don't touch each other? I said we would bow out and they could go and have a nice time. I was pissed but legitimately meant that. So she says something about how I’m making it weird, and that the couple with the kid might not even go. So I said well if they don’t go, then I think it would be ok since the other couple was being safer. She took that, somehow, as me telling her to tell her friends they couldn’t go. I think she was trying to make me feel bad about us deciding to bow out so I’d change my mind, but I didn’t. She clearly took offense to us going with the other couple and not them, but there wasn't time for a quarantine and 3x more people were involved. So I said fine, the trip is canceled.

Her husband called a few days later to apologize because apparently he’s the one who invited the other people. We do know these couples, but they’re their friends. I asked him if his wife planned to apologize and he was like well, she’s mad because of my tone or something. I said I wasn’t rude, I didn’t name call or swear, and if she read into my tone that’s on her. And said I’d die on this hill because I did nothing wrong.

I haven’t heard from them in 2 years.

I should note there’s a history of some other shit in this friendship, and is probably in part why I refuse to apologize, but not going to bring that into the story.

Should I have apologized to her? AITA?
