@paninid it's mostly going to be the marginal players making lower salaries than their peers. Not only gambling themselves, but taking shady money to tweak stats you can bet on now. Sucks.
@paninid I recently listened to an episode of the superb Empire podcast that covered this moment, which led to the end of the EIC and start of the imperial Raj proper. Many of the iconic stories of this era turn out to be apocryphal but def seems like the belief they were going to be made to use pig grease was the flash point for the rebelling troops; it was linked to a current rumor or belief that the (increasingly evangelical) British were going to start forcible religious conversions.
You steal one guy’s idea to make a show about nothing and your inability to be a character actor and live long enough to project all your insecurities.
I bought them for my wife, who was binge-watching Seinfeld last Fall. I assumed she would be interested. The other day, she laughed and said, “I hated that show. They’re all terrible humans, and I get that’s the point, but I watched mainly to learn all the cultural references I keep missing.” 🤣
So, we’re just going to enjoy the night out regardless of how he turns out.
Understanding the history of Israel •does• require understanding it as a settler colonialist project. But analogizing to US history is extremely misleading. Solidarity between comparable regimes does NOT explain US support for Israel.
