Fujifilm fans: Have we reached peak Fujifilm? Their mirrorless cameras have all been SO good over the last ten years that any photographer could pick any of them up and be in control of their image right away. Great handling, great user interface, great sensors. I look at the X100VI and the X-T50 and think, meh, so what? (And, bloody hell, that's a LOT of money!)

I'm sure I'm not the only person in the world who has solar panels on their roofs who has wasted quite some time in the mornings watching the magic of the power coming on.

This smugness is matched by looking back at a bell curve graph of production for the day where you've used up almost everything that the panels have produced and yet drawn almost nothing from the grid.

What's not mentioned here is steel-reinforced concrete structures' lifespan - 100 years is an optimistic limit even for a quality construction. So all this shit will need to be torn down and rebuilt within 100 years. That's assuming that all these buildings in China are being made to top-notch standards which, from what I've seen on the Interwebs, is definitely not the case.

There’s a bit in the news here in Spain recently about the government’s forthcoming legislation on #mobility. The backlash from the right wing is predictable - scaremongering that we’ll be forced to become sweaty cyclists overnight. The new law makes all the right noises in the context of the city - eliminate private cars, more public transport, walking & cycling. It fails to cover the tricky problem of rural & mountainous communities - too difficult / costly / unprofitable.

I would argue that Spain's current system of having to see a public health system doctor to get even one day off sick is counterproductive. Here I am, #covid test from last night clearly positive, in the doctor's waiting room with octogenarians and small children. I've been here an hour because the doctor's running late. I called the surgery ahead of time and, yes, I need to see the doctor in-person. We have masks, of course.

Let's get diesel cars off the roads:

• Ban sales of diesels manufactured from today. This is low-hanging fruit.
  " Bring in a ramping yearly tax on diesels starting with >8 years old paying, say, €1000. Next year €2000 and for >6y.o. >€1000. And so on. Also ramp up tax / litre at the pumps.

Like "electric panel heating" (COP 1.0). For new housing in UK in 2024. A 1-bed £250k flat. WTAF?

Not good. My olive harvest this year will be zero. I mean nothing. Not one olive on the trees. I presume it was down to the extremely hot, extremely long summer. Our fears are that this will be the new normal - science says our fears are justified.

Climate change is hitting our food production. Today.

I expect olive oil to hit €20 per litre in 🇪🇸. 2 years ago it was €4.
