#Amazon#Canada: we are seeing Amazon roll out its despicable #UnionBusting tactics just like it has around the world. But we know the solution is global worker #solidarity
Finnish Employment Minister Arto Satonen doesn't seem to know what politics is, or strikes, or labour bargaining. Because any action to affect a political decision is politics, so any strike is political. Or maybe he want to restrict the rights of workers to nullify unions and workers #Finland#Strikes
Privatized #Boston rail: “We don’t want to #strike, but we will when we are legally able to” - new cleaners pay so low, eligible for #FoodStamps and #Section8
#Sweden: #union will no longer maintain or install #Tesla#Supercharger stations, joining #SympathyStrikes in nearly a dozen unions, including postal workers, dock workers, extending to neighbouring countries
#SouthAfrica: #unions march against mayor and #corruption, "As workers we are the last line of defence for good governance, efficient service delivery as well as honest leadership"
The 1st round of retaliatory #UnitedStates strikes against #Iran-linked militants in #Iran & #Syria killed dozens of fighters & several #civilians, acc/to statements from Iraq government, #militia groups & a local monitoring network on Sat, as the #Biden admin attempts to respond to the killing of 3 US soldiers & injuring of >30 others at #Tower22 in #Jordan w/o escalating the regional conflict.
The overnight #strikes on 85 targets, which used B-1 bombers flown from the #UnitedStates, were part of what U.S. officials say would be a multiday campaign at regional targets linked to #Iran.
“Our response began today. It will continue at times & places of our choosing,” #POTUS#Biden said in a statement Friday. “Let all those who might seek to do us harm know this: If you harm an American, we will respond.”
People on the #left: Don’t be fooled by right-wing claims that #unions & #strikes are ”anti-market”. On the contrary, they exist precisely because big business is anti-market.
In a #market#economy, everyone sets their price. A market that offers better working conditions for skilled workers, moves workers where they are happier.
But in a #monopoly, there is no option. For a worker bound to a location (due to family etc), the local factory is a de-facto monopoly.
The Biden administration has chosen to open up a new front in Yemen instead of pressuring Israel to stop its onslaught against Gaza. Air strikes are unlikely to deter attacks on Red Sea shipping, but they could undercut a deal to end Yemen’s bloody civil war.
Solidarity with all the striking workers in Northern Ireland protesting against two governments who have basically forgotten about them, too obsessed with petty political wrangling to bother supporting their public services.
UCU members at Capital City College Group (CCCG), London's largest further education college group, begin eight days of strike action today in their dispute over pay.
CCCG has already seen three days of strikes in what began as a national dispute over low pay and poor working conditions. With 60 colleges having settled with pay awards of up to 10% CCCG is an isolated employer and must settle the dispute.
#PetesFrootique#employee: “I used to feel embarrassed that I’m in my thirties with two jobs and can’t afford to move out from my parents’ house, but that is not my shame to bear — it’s my #employer’s.”
I haven't done any detailed research into this, but the fact that it spurs such passionate discussion so long after the fact says something powerful about #unions and #strikes, I think.

“What grinds our gears is that a large corporation thinks it can come here and set the rules on the Swedish labor market,” says Trade Union Confederation president Susanna Gideonsson. “To think you can waltz in here as a feudal lord and think a whole country should adapt to one’s whims is just wrong.”
