Been thinking about getting some sort of Android tablet to read comics on, but worried my preferred feature set ("rectangular screen" "rectangular means the edges of the displayable area are ninety degree angles. that's not a rectangle" "cheap, like tablets were five years ago back when you could still get tablets with rectangular screens" "preferably not Samsung") might reduce the pool of available devices to zero

@mcc Not as vibrant, certainly slower to refresh, but it’s the only thing that you can get from an Android device that you can’t with an iPad… This seems to be the “closest analog” to iPad-class hardware with e-ink: https://shop.boox.com/products/tabultracpro

That being said… Android devices just don’t have the maintenance lifetime to make that price tag click… How many ever get even one major OS update, much less continued updates over years.

There's something unsettling about the way Apple shares presumably private details like Spotify's use of TestFlight and installation figures. @danielpunkass I suspect those were already part of discovery in the EU already publicized. Spotify is not the good guy in this, any more than Amazon was when they used the DOJ to enshrine their dominance in ebooks.

#3DPrinting I've got 3 upcoming projects 🤞 (2 YouTube channel ideas & product photos) that need easy, reproduceable camera positioning, for multiple angles.

As a result, I'm embarking on the printing of this beast (~3kg filament) and it wants a 0.6mm nozzle so that you don't spend metaphorical years printing all the parts.

This made me think about #BambuLabs hot end setup, and.... I don't like it.

@masukomi I wish there were a Bambu-moment for home CNC/laser like there’s been for FDM, but in the absence I’m aiming to get something like this on-line this year for acrylic/aluminum as well… hit the gaps where FDM and Resin can’t really manufacture well.

Went down a small YouTube rabbit hole this evening trying to see if there ways any affordable way to shred "bad" #3DPrinting stuff so that it could be re-melted and reused.

I print a lot of things where I really don't care about the color used. Was thinking maybe I could re-melt and re-extrude as new filament.

Short version: no. There's no decent shredder for < $1K USD. I was hoping for maybe something < $200.

Starting my first TPU print on the Bambu X1C

Was surprised to discover that you can't put TPU in the AMS because it stretches and gets jammed up.

Unfortunately, my TPU is on a carboard spool and I don't know if that's going to be a problem or not on the external arm thingy.

🤞going to just try & find out. I don't want to model an adapter for the inner ring if i don't have to.

@masukomi the filament feature matrix on Bambu’s site does list tpu as incompatible with the ams. Is the cardboard spool a refill that’s meant to get one of their printable spools attached?

Whenever I think about going back to experimenting with Windows or Android app development, I always return to this:

The Apple developer ecosystem is blessed like no other. With the same codebase, you can hit watch, phone, tablet, desktop, TV, and now AR/VR, for a vast consumer base that 1) values quality, and 2) can afford to pay for it. Every year there are more tools in the toolbox to create better apps. Every year new devices that push performance and enable entirely new things to be built

@williamgunn @stroughtonsmith This is a dated concept. Apple sells Hardware, that’s their business model. Not selling your data, not selling your location, not selling you ads, etc. Everything about their developer ecosystem is about empowering the Consumer, and the developers who build stuff for them, while walking a line of privacy/security vs functionality. They do that better than any other OS/Hardware supplier in the world.

Unity has no business plan beyond the next funding round.

Is there a key combo to switch keyboard layout when you have multiple configured?

I have US & Dvorak which i switch between when i'm using a real keyboard vs the laptop.

BUT i've been somehow accidentally swapping it to Dvorak while only touching my "real" keyboard and I dunno how. I don't see anything that matches what I'm experiencing in the support docs.

@JTostitos @halide There’s a wide variety of way to do this on macOS but are often clunky - so if this were available as Mac app, easier to use than VLC or OBS it’d be pretty nice.
