Good grief🙀

“⚠️Attention, QLD⚠️
We’ve heard reports of people attempting to backburn around their properties as a means of protecting it from fire. A fire ban is in place for the majority of the state and we cannot risk anyone putting more fire into the landscape.
People who start fires risk creating an emergency situation & may put themselves, their property & others in danger.
If you believe your property is at threat from a fire in the area, call Triple Zero (000).”

    1. Markets, characterised as "Willing buyer meets willing seller, a price is struck, both sides benefit from the exchange or it doesn’t happen"have played a very minor role in the rise of the Internet.
    • Internet itself created in the public sector
    • Same for World Wide Web, Wikipedia, blogs
    • Google, Facebook etc rely on attaching ads to content produced by others, not markets
    • Rest of tech sector relies on state-created intellectual property rights

Normally Windows tries to get you to upgrade hardware, by saying your current hardware isn't good enough to run the new version of Windows.

This is so cool! The engineers at MIT discovered that cement and carbon black (paracrystalline carbon) can be mixed to create a supercapacitor that still behaves like cement. That means you can build cement structures that store energy. They estimate that 45 m³ of this material is enough to store 10 kWh (about a day’s worth of energy for a home).

“New Breakthrough in Energy Storage – MIT Engineers Create Supercapacitor out of Ancient Materials”

    breadandcircuses, (edited ) to politics

Our capitalist rulers, and the politicians they own, are playing the long game. Since the 1950s they have been working steadily to shift the Overton window, to reduce the influence of labor unions, to boost consumerism, and to concentrate wealth and power in the hands of a few.

A large part of that strategy involves privatizing services that used to be (and should be) public.

They're playing the long game, and they are winning — much to the detriment of you and me and the environment we live in.
