One of the new books I've recently purchased is called "Planta Sapiens: The New Science of Plant Intelligence" by Paco Calvo with Natalie Lawrence.

I picked it up because I remembered years ago watching some episodes of a docu-series on Netflix that was in a similar vein; regrettably I don't recall the name of the series and wish I watched it in its completion, but it talked about stuff that is not really in the public knowledge, and new discoveries at the time.

I've wanted since then to learn more, but it always seemed like information was spread out and hard to engine search, or not available to the public at all, at least at the time I was looking, so I kind of have up (I could also just suck at looking things up lol).

I'm hoping this book will finally be what satiates my need to learn more about the subject.

So, with genuine curiosity, where's the line between staying on a fediverse that federates with Threads and going back to Xitter?

Sure mastodon/AP is open etc ... but there's a plausible future point where Threads/Meta is so dominant, in a similar way to how mastodon.social is now, that it unquestionable shapes the culture and policies of mainstream mastodon.

It's not like we own our profiles/data here.

So, is there a line and what does it look like?

@trekman10 @maegul True, those of us who came here are here because we wanted an alternative to FB and Twitter. I think my concern is how Threads will try to convince as much of its own base as possible to move here so they can spread out as much as possible. There’s more than one way to take control of something.

A while ago someone on here mentioned how often #ActuallyAutistic folks have difficulty sleeping and that centering your sensory needs can help. They suggested ear plugs and canopy beds, along with weighted blankets and such.

Today I was finally able to hang my new (to me) canopy and I am sat in my bed right now and cannot even begin to tell you the joy I feel.

I don't remember who the person was who shared but thank you!!

@alexisbushnell @actuallyautistic Weighted blankets unfortunately didn't do anything for me, but fairy lights have been amazing and I've always loved the idea of a canopy for my bed to make it nest-like.

Shiny new toy/early Xmas gift to myself. Great deal at Costco, but I’m also going to sell my other two (#AE2 and #Triport ) to get back some of the cost.

I got it because my new phone is Bluetooth only now, but I do like that the headphones are backwards compatible so I can still use it on my older stuff. #Bose #QuietComfort

Im going to lose my mind. I saw a post here a while back about how trees can do this thing where they latch on to a cut down/dead tree and sort of nurse it back to life and the two trees develop mutualism or smthn but I cannot remember what this behavior is called or anything more specific than that. aaaaaaaa.

@kalayo I remember hearing about that too, so I went to see if I could find it. https://www.science.org/content/article/trees-share-water-keep-dying-stump-alive So apparently they call it “grafting” which I guess makes sense, but for some reason I thought that was strictly a fruit tree thing people did on farms.

I wanted to sympathize with them because of the shit they were put through in the early years of the pandemic, but after learning about just how many of them got sucked into the politics, I can’t help but give them side eye.

"Fun" event tuesday.

My coworker is legally blind (all he has is 2% eyesight on the left eye, nothing on the right) with a guide dog and cane and everything.

In the last month he has almost been hit by bike riders 5 times by rider who think they own the whole place not just the bike lane.

When he and our boss did an outside interview with the local paper about this the reporter was hit by a bike rider.

I have said it before, as a pedestrian bike riders scare the fuck out of me. Cars? no.

@WhyNotZoidberg Where I’m at you have to watch out for both. Cyclists think they own the sidewalks and road, and drivers just set their brains on auto pilot and forget everyone else exists.
