@YoMamaYoMama Many Tesla workers are afraid to reveal their union membership. But this strike is about so much more than just Tesla workers- this is about the entire labor market.

If Tesla keeps getting away with this behavior, the model that has served businesses and workers well for decades may come to an end, forcing governments to regulate. More unrest and strikes would follow, damaging the economy.

Shall Tesla adapt, or whole countries?

Wow. Country demands that Spotify pay its artists a fair wage. So Spotify responds by shutting down all services in that country.

This is getting wild.
Shoutout to Uruguay for standing up.

@ErickaSimone @joaocosta I think Uruguay is doing the right thing but in the wrong way. A better legal approach would have been a court verdict to invalidate contracts between artists and record companies, determining they don’t cover streaming rights. Without clarity of who to deal with, Spotify would not only risk having to pay twice, but potentially being sued by one part for paying the other.

"We don't have any min wages or laws for when you can or can't work in Sweden. We have frameworks. Apart from that, it is collective bargaining agreements that regulate the labour market," said Torbjorn Johansson, of the union umbrella org.

Around 90% of all employees in Sweden are covered by collective bargaining agreements, .

@denspier@mastodon.green avatar

@colo_lee In Sweden and other Scandinavian countries only the shadiest of companies refuse to negotiate a collective bargaining contract. This conflict is not only about Tesla employees, far from it, but about the entire labor market. If entities are not able to reach agreements, then the century old principle of “government hands off” from labor terms may have to end. This will very likely mean many more conflicts and strikes on what has been one of Europe’s most peaceful labor markets.

@Motherboard What Tesla doesn’t seem to get is that this is making them appear like a very shady company. Refusing to negotiate a standard collective bargaining agreement in Sweden - where the government traditionally doesn’t interfere in the market by mandating minimum wages - will deter buyers. “How can I trust that a company that won’t abide by the same rules and regulations as everyone else when it comes to something as simple this will honor safety standards and consumer rights?”

Can't recommend Consent-O-Matic enough for hiding those infuriating #GDPR popups

And it does it by ANSWERING them, per your own settings!! It does not just accept/reject all, it's all up to you.

You know, the way this poorly considered law should have been handled in the first place. Same with the stupid cookie law, call for a browser setting then punish people who don't respect it. Fuck popups.

@SirTapTap It’s not the law that is at fault, it’s websites’ behavior. Websites that apply no or only necessary cookies don’t have to request consent. Same if they honor the “do not track” browser setting (which they should according to recent court decisions).

Done right, consent pop ups should be a very rare thing.

Meta has started the roll out of their "Pay or OK" model for advertising. I fail to see how this will meet the requirements of the GDPR and the ePrivacy legislation, let alone how this does not interfere with everyone's fundamental rights to privacy and data protection.

The CJEU was quite clear in Meta v Bundeskartellamt: consent needs to be specific and granular, especially when it comes to personalised online advertising. I don't see any of this in the choices provided to me now.

❔️ When did the #Swedish media first begin reporting about the existence of #nazi mass extermination camps?

#Sweden managed to remain non-aligned throughout WWII and traded with both the allies and the axis powers, but obviously wished not to invite aggression from the Third Reich already on its borders so a great deal of caution would be understandable.

Genuine question. I recently watched a Hannah Arendt interview (she had escaped into France in 1940 and then USA in 1941) and she mentioned first hearing about them in 1943 and initially refusing to believe such news could be true.

⚠️ What had in fact happened was that the nazis built some smaller concentration camps soon after seizing power in 1933 to incarcerate or dispose of German "undesirables".

After the invasion of Poland in late 1939, jointly with Stalin as agreed in the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, first 'proto-type' camps purposely designed for mass extermination were built on Polish soil.

After Hitler's June 1941 betrayal of Stalin (Operation Barbarossa) the nazis quickly advanced to Ukraine and Belarus, and behind the frontline the nazis began building the mass extermination camps we all should know about from documentaries in late 1941 and early 1942 in occupied Poland. That is when the full scale #genocide and the mass transport of Jews and other "untermensch" from across nazi-occupied territories became an industrial scale effort...

denspier,

@demi7en August 20, 1942 German SS officer Kurt Gerstein leaks detailed information about the holocaust to Swedish diplomat Göran von Otter. Not until January 1943 when von Otter is back in Stockholm does he report to the Swedish foreign ministry. They decide to neither go public nor forward the information to the allies. Not until 1955 did Swedish media learn that Sweden knew about the atrocities in detail in 1942.

A national shame. Plays have been written about this.
