Was there any parking, road toll or congestion tax discounts for electric vehicles in Sweden or Denmark?

I remember few years ago Denmark was planning a congestion tax for Copenhagen, was it cancelled?

denspier,
@denspier@mastodon.green avatar

@nemeciii No exceptions to congestion tax for EVs in Sweden. All vehicles except public transport are treated equally, even taxis. There is however a not unreasonable maximum daily fee.

Paul Alexander, who lived in iron lung for more than 70 years, dies at 78 - National | Globalnews.ca https://globalnews.ca/news/10356211/paul-alexander-iron-lung-polio-death/

denspier,
@denspier@mastodon.green avatar

@lproven Sad to learn that, but what a guy Paul Alexander was!

The article describe iron lungs as “mechanical ventilators that push air into the lungs”. It’s more correct to say they PULL air into the lungs. The article also claim that “iron lungs have been replaced by modern ventilators and tracheal intubation”. This is only partially correct. Iron lungs are extremely gentle in comparison and can be used for very long periods of time. What really replaced iron lungs was the polio vaccine.

I find it despicable, how the idiots of our time destroy art to get attention.

Yesterday at Trinity College, Cambridge, an idiot destroyed the historic painting of Lord Balfour from 1914, claiming that this would somehow help Gaza.

No cause entitles anyone to destroy the artworks which educate future generations about our past.

denspier,
@denspier@mastodon.green avatar

@randahl I understand your sentiment, but one could argue that just oil on canvas does not make art. Thanks to this act other ingredients were added, and a static portrait suddenly got life and meaning. It was mundane. But now it’s art.

denspier,
@denspier@mastodon.green avatar

@randahl Art have always been attacked occasionally, and that will continue whether we like it or not. But there’s a huge difference between mindless vandalism and acts that add context and meaning, and I think that was worth pointing out. In this particular case, restoring the portrait would now itself be an act of vandalism, depleting art of context and artistic value.

@archenemy If your blog doesn’t log any personal information you don’t need to request user consent, let alone a “GDPR plugin”. Easiest solution.

Tomorrow I will be driving a BYD Seal and the new Tesla Model 3 Long Range.

Reason is that I have to order an new car (first world problem, I know).

However, to streamline my decision process, I have set up a Google doc to tick off my checks. If you are interested, pls take a look:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Td0n9taFId3qmHSsYaK27PEXcHkbw0W9GWdEo34PyG8/edit?usp=sharing

If you want to contribute with other EVs (e.g. VW ID7), please let me know, I will then give you write access to the sheet.

@glynmoody Privacy and the right to one’s data is very important, but without transparency of basic public information there can be no accountability and no freedom. Giving up on vital values in a society is not the answer, but would mean losing by default.

denspier,
@denspier@mastodon.green avatar

@glynmoody Addresses, phone numbers and income have always been public information, long before the internet. I think it’s vital that it stays that way, society shouldn’t give in to criminals but stay open. There are so many other measures that can be taken to increase security.

denspier,
@denspier@mastodon.green avatar

@glynmoody The Freedom of the Press Act of 1766 ended government censorship and ensured public access to official government documents (The Principle of Public Access). The act was a victory for priest, scientist, philosopher and politician Anders Chydenius from Österbotten, that had laid out his ideas on the principles of liberalism and free markets in his book The National Gain in 1765, years before Adam Smith. Freedom of religion and banning of torture were also his achievements.

I have really come to hate how much sugar, manufacturers stuff our food with.

But from a YouTube channel I saw some easy-to-make, healthy cookies, so I decided to make some.

You empty your cupboards of all the kinds of nuts you like, plus some raisins or dried apricots to give a little bit of sweetness. You chop everything up, mix it with pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, 1 or 2 tablespoons of honey, and 1 egg to make it stick.

Bake for 15 minutes at 180 °C, and you are in heaven.

It's been pretty quiet on this account since the beginning of the year. There is a reason for this: we are working on a new website. Now it's finally online! Of course, it's not finished yet. Is a website ever really finished? 😉 That is why we welcome your comments and remarks! The address is still the same: https://www.cluster-roots.org

denspier, (edited )
@denspier@mastodon.green avatar

@clusterroots There’s no excuse for a new website to use the same old “This website uses cookies. By continuing to visit this website, you agree to the use of cookies.”

Consent is only freely given if it is as easy to reject and revoke as it is to agree. The way you phrase the question you don’t gain the consent you seek even if users click OK and continue to use the website.

If the cookies on your site does not require consent, stop requesting it. If they do, make a valid request.

@Ruth_Mottram @petergleick I remember my old dad used to write checks, but that was some 30 years ago or more. I don’t think checks have been an option here for many years.

Cash is going the same way. Cash used to be king, but today cash, especially in larger amounts, is seen as suspect. It’s all direct bank transfers by app or payment by debit card, and to some extent credit card.

denspier,
@denspier@mastodon.green avatar

@alxndr @rmondello It matters because there’s often suggested, from both left and right, that there was a political agenda behind Covid policy in Sweden, when in reality it was probably less political than most other countries. Without understanding this it’s very easy to jump to conclusions.

denspier,
@denspier@mastodon.green avatar

@alxndr @rmondello There are substantial differences in care for the elderly in Sweden compared to neighboring countries, that I won’t even try to explain here, but the mistake that all studies and authorities agree on is the failure to understand how easily Covid spread in care homes given those differences. But to claim that the elderly were “murdered” is not helpful in trying to understand what went well and what went wrong.
