WHY is the person feeling "need" to have "greater material value" than "their inferoirs"..

Because their identity has been deformed, into being ( to some degree ) money-value instead of intrinsic-value.

I was brought-up in upper-middle-class identity ( dad was a medical-researcher & doctor ), and it took 7 years as a homeless person to fracture that class-status-identity underlying my ego, enough, to begin dismantling its distortion of my life..

Programming children into class-racism isn't a victimless-crime.

Programming children that they have no intrinsic value, but their validity is their "superior wealth" .. converts them from living for their human-worth, to, instead, living as enforcers of the artifice, for the artifice's benefit..

multiplying the artifice's dominion.

iow, those who are artificial, that way, while they are manipulating others, with their artifice, they are artificial in themselves, and that is the result of the manipulation they were grown-up in.

Here comes a thread on light pollution from satellites, with a concrete action that you all can take to help push for regulation of satellites in orbit!

Astronomers have been worried about light pollution from satellites (if you've been following me for more than 24 hours, you've perhaps heard a bit about this). Astronomers spent SO much time and effort begging and pleading with Starlink to make their satellites fainter, with mixed results.

@sundogplanets You do realize, that within .. an hour or so of WW3, that all the space-capable militaries in the world are going to have blown to smithereens all of their enemy's satellites, enforcing kessler-syndrome, right?

That once that has happened, nothing can undo it.

That WW3 has to unfold as a war-of-attrition without satnav, without spy-satellites, without weather-satellites, without communications-satellites...

and there is nothing that can prevent the beginning of WW3 from enforcing kessler-syndrome.

It may be avoidable until the dominant-players in BRICS decide that the West is damaged-enough for WW3,

but once that tipping-point is crossed, NOTHING can prevent it..

Therefore, unless your group has some means of preventing inevitable geopolitical-deterioration, during #ClimatePunctuation, and the food-insecurity, the political-tantrum, the religious-tantrum, etc, from crossing that tipping-point, then .. kessler-syndrome isn't evadeable.

    I think it has become rather common and comfortable to aggress others in order to carve a new space out for yourself.

    I don't know if that is ubiquitous or always true. I would like to believe we can live in a world that allows for mistakes and growth. A place where the statement 'high tides rise all ships' can be true. I wish we did at least.

    That is going to happen, towards the end of this century,
    but the .. force .. required to corner humankind into altering the identity-crystals ( on-which one's "ego" grows: identity-crystal is more-basic ) underlying all our ideologies/prejudices .. is .. ugly.

    In other news, the cord on my oil space heater in the living is broken. Not sure how, but I’m guessing it might have been Peanut Butter. She’s not quite out of the chewing phase yet. Because nobody fixes anything any more, there’s no fixit shop I can take it to and have the cord replaced. So, I’m going to have to go buy a new one for about $100 and dump this current one that’s less than a year old. Very frustrating.
    (No, I can’t replace the cord myself, I’m dyslexic & that’s counterindicated)

    @samhainnight Do you have a friend who isn't dyslexic?

    Cutting-out the chewed-through portion of the cord,
    and doing a proper soldered-splice of the 2, or 3, conductors, keeping their order proper, shouldn't be too difficult for a normal adult...

    It should cost little to do a repair.

    Good quality electrical tape would probably be the greatest cost? ( 3M makes some good ones ),
    but if you need solder/soldering-iron ( 40w ), then that might be a few bucks..

    No-where near $100, though.

    have their kind of morality, but because they cannot experience animal-empathy ( I think it is because of broken mirror-neuron system ), their morality cannot value, or respect, others' supposed validity/worth/potential/living-opportunity...

    It is a morality.

    The nazi morality was a morality.

    The crusaders' morality was a morality.

    etc.

    I hold that Universe demonstrates that some morality is more-right/more-valid than others,
    and absolute-relativism is bunk...

    Moralities which increase the long-term gain in whole population sentience & living-richness, are, in my eyes, objectively superior to moralities which do the opposite.

    Therefore, to me psychopathic-moneyarchy is categorically inferior.

    I'm trying to work around various bugs caused by all these non-Mastodon instances running janky Mastodon compatibility APIs so people can use Mastodon clients on them. The big one is that some of these APIs don't properly handle removing markup in situations where markup isn't supported.

    The biggest offender seems to be newlines after a quote block seem to be considered part of the quote block and thus get stripped out, smooshing whatever comes after the quote block directly after the last character in the quote block instead of turning the newline into a space. So now I have to add extra newlines which look bad to people whose clients/APIs/instances properly support markup.

    I'm really tired of Mastodon holding back all the people who aren't even frickin' using Mastodon!

    There are some hot and appropriate takes going around about the "leadership" at the top of major fediverse projects, and its imminent failures. One of those leaders literally describes himself as a "dictator". Well, now his technology has a new dictator, one who has no credible pretense to benevolence.

    It seems there are two kinds of FOSS-folk among us. One contextualizes their technical work with a political understanding; be it anarchism, socialism, or some variant of an oppositional outlook, which posits FOSS in an anticapitalist, antiracist or liberatory context. They know there's something out there to stand against, and aspirationally, replace. I salute them and hope we can all build together.

    The other, while more-or-less into FOSS, seems to be motivated by nothing deeper than a "tech is neato" ethos. One could argue that it's this second type that has brought us to the crisis.

    If tech has any chance to facilitate liberatory - or even alternative - agency (and it's arguable if that chance exists), it has to be about something more than itself. As we watch ActivityPub, Mastodon and Pixelfed get recuperated into the Zuckerverse, here's hoping we can figure out a way to sustain and support those developers of next-gen decentralized and peer-to-peer social networking who understand this

    & see each dimension itself,
    in order to understand that actual situation.

    The economic dimension is 1 dimension.

    The license is another, independent.

    The financing of the project's development, whether social/spare-time or corporate or fundrazr/patreon/whatever, is another...

    etc.

    To me, it isn't that "social" communication is a "nice to have", it is a requirement for a functioning humanity.

    It needs to be public-property, not corporate/private or oligarch/private or faction/private.

    That, right there, places backing it in public-ownership/public-obligation.

    Preventing that, for money's highjacking/subjugation/possession, however you want to perceive it,
    is moneyarchy's requirement.

    2 ( of multiple ) competing-for-totalitarian-dominion intentions.

    IF humanity doesn't begin fighting-for-its-life,
    THEN it isn't going to have any say in whether human-life is meaninful, much longer.

    IF the reason you'd been asking, is that you wanted to make-certain you've got framing it right, when talking to a journalist, then I absolutely understand why you were asking.

    People who immerse themselves in specialized knowledge, and then unconsciously presume that all have such frame-of-reference, can end up wrecking their PR through their not-understanding normal-perspective!

    I believe I have tracked down the strange surges in PM2.5 being detected by my indoor air sensor: pet dander! Kept seeing strange spikes, and I think it correlates to the dog shaking when he gets up from wherever he is lying. 🤔
