We only smelled gas in the basement, but they wanted to inspect the whole house, and I swear there was a brief moment where I thought “My house is so messy, I’d rather die in a fire than have them traipse through my whole house!” I console myself that they’ve probably seen worse.

We really need to gather various related properties that are scattered across different browsers without full support (or with just partial support) and make it into an focus area.

Like ascent-override (please, Safari!)

Or font-size-adjust (come on, Chrome!)

Or… initial-letter (hey, Firefox!), though, there are also so many ::first-letter issues!

Or text-box-trim & text-box-edge (ok, these are only there in Safari TP)

And so on, and so forth.

The more I dig down the various rabbit holes in Google’s new Web Platform Dashboard, the less I understand it. I think I need an explainer that’s more detailed than the launch blog post. Anyone have a lead on such a thing?

@foolip Hey Philip! I get the broad rationale (after all, I was part of some of those discussions) but the criteria for how features get listed/scored is opaque. To pick one example: Declarative Shadow DOM shows no compat scores due to “Insufficient test coverage.” despite having over 5,000 subtests, but the cap unit shows 100% coverage across the board thanks to all browsers passing all two subtests. Many other listed features just say --- for scores, with no explanation. Mystifying!

Are folks using things like margin-inline as shorthand for left/right and margin-block as shorthand for top/bottom?

Or do you avoid that because of writing-mode/direction/text-orientation?

Or are those not really a concern in your usage? #css

Can someone explain to me why we don’t have media queries for browser engines in #CSS? Just pride?

I get that we, in a perfect world, wouldn't need it - because the standards were strong enough. But I live in the real world, and would prefer not to write shit like this:
