I was kinda hoping calc-size() could resolve intrinsic sizes inside math functions but it doesn't seem to (at least in Chrome Canary). Not sure if that's a bug or if Friday afternoon isn't the best time to try to understand draft specs 🤯

I don't think it would be a common use case, but it would be handy to be able to use it to solve things like this https://mastodon.social/@Jbasoo/110593686096922129

@Jbasoo It is possible! https://codepen.io/kizu/pen/vYwxyez

calc-size(max-content, round(up, size, var(--grid-size)))

The way it works: in the first argument is the intrinsic value you want to use, and in the second is the calculation that you intend to do with it, where a special size keyword becomes available as the “variable”.

There's this idea that has stuck with me since the early days working with John Resig on the jQuery team, when he shared that the end goal of the library should be to make itself unnecessary (in jQuery's case by influencing practices and standards). Some polyfills took that idea further by using feature checks to silently exit once their API gained native browser support. Today's popular frameworks address different problems, but it feels like a similar moment for thoughtful planning nonetheless

Don't know if I reach any game developer. But games need a "adult mode" as in "I haven't played the game for weeks because life happened. Please give me a ramp up of the story so far and an option for a short tutorial with all the controls and mechanics".

Something that is funny (read: not funny at all) to me as a front-end engineer who is on the front-end side of the spectrum is that anytime I've done or talked about promo papers, the one thing that is always brought up is "make sure you can show your ops work". Yet we have countless L6 engineers who don't know how to write CSS effectively or know anything about creating accessible UIs or using things like grid and new CSS methods to make layouts. That's never a barrier to them getting promoted.
