So, this was released today. My third stamp with Canada Post. Qarlinngua (The pants). And technically my second stamp with a family member in it, as the tiny figure in it is my son Travis. Now for one with Hilary in it.

I’ve very proud of all of these, beyond the cache. They are about my home, and family. And also my family has a long history with the Post Office, 101 years. My grandfather, father, and brother were all postmasters in Roblin.

@NunavutBirder I hope this is almost-three-dollars and not almost-five-octillion (2 to the 92nd power) dollars...

@NunavutBirder makes it a bit tricky for stamp collectors to afford one, though...

So to summarize:
Adopting BDS is criminalized
Criticizing Israel is antisemitic
Appealing to ICJ is unwarranted
Funding UNRWA is banned
Appealing to ICC Is banned
Ending the occupation is off the table
Ending the settlements is off the table
The peaceful Great March of Return is banned
Protesting peacefully on college campuses is antisemitic
Demanding return of Palestinian children held in indefinite detention in Israeli prisons is not even an option

So what are Palestinians supposed to do??

Daveosaurus,
@Daveosaurus@mastodon.nz avatar

@FrankFrank @QasimRashid If there was ever any doubt that you were merely trolling on behalf of Bibi the Butcher, your invocation of Squeaky Ben has dispelled it.

You can watch Squeaky Ben get roasted by a REAL conservative here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRF3r3zUGqk

Daveosaurus,

@FrankFrank @QasimRashid Hamas murdered, say, 1200 Israelis. Likud has murdered, say, 30,000 Palestinians so far. By the numbers, Likud is 25 times more evil than Hamas, and is only getting worse.

happy to say, Richard Dawkins has me blocked on Xitter because, during his Hijabi concern-trolling days, i not only dared to question his knowledge of Islamic traditions, but called him a bad atheist for not even knowing the basics of Christianity history, doctrine & theology.

i regret nothing.

@nicksalt @ramsey @trochee @blogdiva @SallyStrange Dawkins severely embarrassed himself a year or so back when he let himself be embroiled in a debate about whether non-white Indigenous knowledge was valid (he thought it wasn't).

I don't know if there's a word for the concept that the more brilliant someone is in a very narrow and tightly focused field, the more completely out to lunch they are in every other sphere of knowledge... but if there isn't, I suggest calling it the "Dawkins effect".

One of the weird things I find with writing Fantasy is that it takes sooooooo long to get anywhere. This is a series of maps showing the time it used to take to travel across America from New York. Days to get anywhere, even with installed roads, in 1800, then down to weeks to reach Chicago.

How would this affect the way you draw your maps?

#AmWriting #writing #fantasy

Rates of travel 1857 - it still takes a week to get to the midwest, but now you can reach the west coast in a few weeks.
Rates of travel 1930 - the railroad network is now established and it takes only a few days to travel across the entire US.

Daveosaurus,
@Daveosaurus@mastodon.nz avatar

@golgaloth Another thing about the 19th century is that the length of time it took to travel anywhere was also the length of time it took for news or letters to get anywhere. As an example... a massive piece of news in 1861 was the death of Prince Albert of England on the 14th December. The first mention of this in any New Zealand newspaper on the Papers Past web site is an unverified report on 14th March 1862 - three months later.

When right-wing politicians talk about “the good old days” or some similar concept, most of the warm-glow memories they are invoking are from eras when everyone’s lives had been improved by left-wing governments.

Daveosaurus,
@Daveosaurus@mastodon.nz avatar

@billbennett I never knew whether they were being serious or exaggerating for dramatic effect (my knowledge of 1960s British tax rates is next to zero). Nineteen shillings in the pound does sound like the sort of tax rate that could have been satirical.

Daveosaurus,
@Daveosaurus@mastodon.nz avatar

@billbennett In "the good old days" the top tax rate was 66 cents in the dollar.

Try bringing that back now and if you could harness the outrage you could probably power a small city with it.

"Alexa, play Spotify."

Nothing happened.

"Alexa. Play Spotify." Said in a "don't make me come over here" tone of voice.

Alexa obviously decided that the counter staff meant business and started up again...
