Forget donuts. America runs on butts.

An old favorite (to the tune of That's Amore, made popular by Dean Martin, and the movies Moonstruck and Grumpy Old men).

DFunk,

@AskPippa That’s not very romantic. Is there wine?

The systematic sinking of russian ships is impressive.
Many navies are thinking about the implications of this kind of warfare i think.
Sadly it doesn't change anything on the ground. Where Ukraine is on the defensive and losing territory.
#Ukraine #geopolitics #Caesar Kunikov @geopolitics

DFunk,

@ErikJonker @geopolitics Ukraine’s ability to reestablish its grain corridor is something, I think.

#MyFirstMac was the Bondi Blue G3 iMac.

DFunk,

@joshua @marioguzman I bet you had an Epson 740C USB color inkjet printer, too! (as did I). It was, i think the very first USB printer, which made selection easy.

I had that printer a very long time.

To the extent that search engines know which content is created by generative AI, they should offer a search parameter to users that excludes all known AI-generated content in search results. Where possible, a sticky "never show me AI-generated content" option should also be available.

DFunk,

@lauren @jbenjamint Is there any possibility of assigning liability to them if they return as fact what they know (or should know) to be garbage?

@vruz. I'm not 'debating' — I'm advocating for material change. Try it sometime! And then see how it feels when someone calls you an asshole for trying

DFunk,

@caseynewton @vruz An attempt to empathize with the emotion and raw hurt contained in Mr. Dolan’s statement, instead of personalized defensiveness would be impressive. I don’t know the full communication so aren’t harshly judging but what I read from Mr. Dolan was truth and didn’t really have much to do with you. We all need to be able to be.

Do not spend the Friday before Christmas replying to this post about how you don’t like TikTok. Just enjoy your night!

In a simpler, less neo-Nazi-infested time when I didn't refuse to set a solitary foot in the woman-subjugating, Klan-empowering garbagescape of Texas, I stumbled on an EP called Live Texas Radio by a band called The Highwaymen, and who were, to be clear, a DIFFERENT Highwaymen from the all-star aging-legend ensemble. I bought it on cassette, to give you an idea of the epoch, and it was, as its title suggests, recorded in a live-for-broadcast session on some station down there. It's an astounding record, both ass-kicking and eviscerating in places, and in the latter category was this song of which I have just done a respectful cover (attached). It was a good song then, but now, 30ish years later, it jumped into my brain out of the blue as I was trying to come up with a song for some dear friends' anniversary, and the lyrics now resonate so deeply that they having me rolling over things in my head that I'd thought long-buried. If you've got four minutes where you've got nothing better to do, might be worth your time, might not. Only one way to find out, I suppose.

Some time in October: Ah! Delaminating plywood by the canal... Grab that camera..... Compose compose click click....

(Some weeks later) er... what's this? Ah! (edit edit edit):
    Picture Number One!

(Some weeks later) Ohoh! I want to find a portrait orientated picture with a bit of Oomph.... This one! It's just that it's all wrong, needs a bit of a massive tweek (tweeks):
    Picture Number Two!

    That's it, here it is.

    DFunk,

@tomclearwood @DemocracySpot My first thought was ‘stairway to Heaven’ (concept not song) Not sure how I got there…

Teslas become uglier by the day.

    DFunk,

@StillIRise1963 Clarifying: I got no tesla car. Just the solar system. Used to be Solar City, then tesla bought them, I should convert to an electric car soon. We only have one vehicle (a small pick-up truck). Won’t be a tesla. Too ugly.

    DFunk,

@StillIRise1963 We like them ok. They look nice on a stucco house with a concrete roof. It’s the nazi part that harshes the buzz

From reading the rumors it sounds like the M3 CPU range is going to need an Apple Pencil style chart to figure out what the hell you are buying.

    DFunk,

@paul Maybe just a sign there’s considerable production issues with the 3 nm process. A dead core doesn’t waste the chip, it’s just a lower model.

Maybe a chip where everything specs out as designed is one of the expensive fancy ones.

The modern corporate obsession with data is beyond incorrect, it's obscene.

If I order a pizza, there's no universe where the social contract should include a follow-up email about a survey. IT'S A PIZZA. And moreover, I PAID FOR IT WITH MONEY. You are not entitled to 5 minutes of my time to fill out your fucking survey.

Any marketer or data scientist who tells you that every pizza that gets ordered should also generate a survey request email IS FULL OF SHIT and is ABUSING YOUR CUSTOMERS.

    DFunk,

@maxleibman @lisamelton I think they sell it, or sell access. Slimy as hell. My urologist now sends survey request through the Secure Patient portal. With accompanying notifications of an important message from your doctor. Every visit.

Me: I saved a picture on my iPad like 30 minutes ago. Why don’t I see it on my phone?

My iPad that is at 100% battery and is plugged in: just optimizing battery, bro

My kingdom to be able to have my Apple devices sync all photos immediately no matter what 🙏

    DFunk,

@matt @viticci And a way to initiate a sync. Maybe a progress indicator (yes, I know about the little pie gauge that sometimes informs a little).

    DFunk,

@matt @viticci Yea, I see it there. Good point.
iCloud Sync is very non-transparent, though. If something doesn’t sync, or does so unreliably - there’s nothing seemingly to do. Twirling on your left foot doesn’t seem to help. And I’m not much for praying

I wish people would stop bragging about not getting Covid, it's really not just because of your superior skills or even precautions and, while it feels like a personal achievement, like many things associated with having privileges it's the privileges combined with your caution that have kept you untouched by the disease infecting the social body. It almost always requires A LOT of economic and social privilege to be able to isolate away from the mass of the social body.

    DFunk,

@fifilamoura @JonChevreau I take issue. It isn’t a privilege to “isolate away from the mass of the social body.”

We might be talking about a Social Security pensioner squirreled away in a low income apartment and eating oatmeal. Trying to be responsible enough for everyone around them.

Or maybe physically vulnerable, maybe immunologically incompetent. Or the spouse or mate of some such person (me-on both counts).

It’s not just about privilege. No one is untouched.
