A spectacular morning filled with completely mesmerizing colors as the clouds moved across the sky. This scene is from one of my favorite local places. Lake Lamar Bruce, Saltillo MS
Spur of yesterday's moment, decided to carpe today and weekend (thanks to good hotel deal) - to show my visiting in laws DC (they'd never been). We and kids were here in April 2016 last to see things.

Is reclining your seat on a plane a no-no? An etiquette expert says that in these days of limited legroom, it's inconsiderate. Others point out that if seats weren't supposed to lean back, they wouldn't lean back. And there's a third point of view: The airlines are effectively selling the same space twice, so it's all their fault. Here's USA Today's breakdown of the issues. What do you think?
A landscape travelogue that incorporates recent and past mountain excursions in Switzerland, France, Canada, China, and the United States interspersed with journal extracts (super 8 film) recorded during the same period.
Maybe I’m the last idiot to figure this out, but I think I finally know what the wide elastic band on the back of #Valve’s #SteamDeck carrying case is for: It’s a passthrough for your carryon #suitcase handle when traveling, just like with a laptop carryon or other #travel bag. The power adapter in its separate mesh pocket can even nestle in between the handle posts.
Map of night trains in Europe. In combination with high-speed trains and regional trains, a lot of destinations are one evening plus overnight away. Now if only oil subsidies would end, flight tickets wouldn’t be competitive, particularly with Interrail ticket schemes.
Today is the 19th anniversary of my start date at the Palmer House Hilton in #Chicago, Illinois, USA. If you were a guest at the Palmer House between June of 2004 and August 2006, it's entirely possible that I checked you in for your stay.
If that's the case, hello again! I apologize if your room was impossibly small. I promise it wasn't personal. The hotel is old.
My name is Jake and I am a 3rd year university student studying Paleontology and Geosciences. I’m late to the party switching over from #twitter but, better late than never!
Wondering why I haven't posted any photos in a while?
I was just building a stock of a little over 5000 photos. It will take me a while to post shots of my wonderful trip. Here is a preview.
Can you guess where I was?
This would be done on this account, sadly Träwelling, the train/tram/bus trip recording client I use ( #traewelling@traewelling ) doesn’t yet support anything but Mastodon to auto-post to. Once #MastodonDE is done and ready, my trips will be Auto-posted on my main account there (or I’ll make a separate train account, not sure yet).
2023.06.29 Update
I’ve decided to put travels that happened mostly within an city with city transportation (bus, metro, tram, etc.) as part of the same trip into one post! If such a thing is documented, then my description of what happened on that trip will occur in that post, not the post about the way back as was the case previously.

On my way to Hannover to catch a connecting train to Dresden then Zittau, Czechia where the Pfingstcamp will occur! Very excited for this, going with my best friends and packed my stuff for the whole last week (jk, did everything last minute on yesterday’s evening and today’s morning).

Caught all trains (and busses)! Writing this afterwards as the train rides were wild. It was a challenge finding our seats, despite being reserved the train compartments starting from Hannover were in a way different order so we had trouble finding our seats.
Once we arrived in Dresden we saw an ad for a ridiculous book which we posed in front of to take pictures. We looked up the Wikipedia article of the guy who wrote it, turns out he suggests voting for the Nazi party, makes sense considering the dumbness of his book. I won’t give him publicity, but it was seriously funny.
Once we arrived in Zittau we found our shuttle and drove to the Pfingstcamp in the midst of night. We got our keys there and somehow walked to our bungalow in the weirdest way (I remember walking through sand, bushes, inbetween other bungalows and tents), despite there being a direct path which we saw the next day once the sun was out. Will say more about my experience there on the train post about my way back!
