My Google drive -> Nextcloud move has been going great so far. The desktop and mobile clients work very well, and the virtually unlimited storage space I have on my instance makes it awesome for syncing very large files (which I've been needing to do a lot lately)
For the folders where I needed 2 way sync in my mobile devices (neither mobile clients can do) I found that #syncthing works perfectly
I had an idea last night about an awesome potential #Mastodon#Fediverse#ActivityPub capability to take #selfhost#selfhosting to the next level. Could a Mastodon (et al) server be "packaged" tightly enough that it could essentially act as an application on any desktop/laptop computer, or even mobile, so that you could truly "carry your Mastodon instance with you"? The biggest hurdle would be finding a way to ensure your domain name was transportable regardless of physical IP address. #AskFedi
Disabled a few relays as I was eating up too much database and media storage on the @mastohost plan. Going to be possibly pruning a few more relays, and to be fair I should be fairly well federated even without them as I have around 1,400 followers. Make sure you're following me if you aren't already!
I'll know more after a few days of monitoring. I'll probably be upgrading the server again. I'll keep my server posted on the status. #fediverse#Mastoadmin#selfhosting#mastodon

YunoHost – self-hosting w przyjaznej formie https://blog.tomaszdunia.pl/yunohost-oracle/
Veloren is an open-source multi-player voxel role-playing game that can be self-hosted (and has more adventure and fun than Minecraft)
It is inspired by games such as Cube World, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft.
You can play single player or multi-player, standalone or use an online server, or even host your own server in a Docker container, or on a Raspb ...continues
The #fediverse is too addicting, you want to see and federate with it all from your server but needing to keep upgrading because you can’t keep up. I am starting to relate with the guy from Indiana Jones #selfhosting#mastoadmin#funny#mastodon
I just had to steal this #meme from #reddit, it's about #selfhosting all your stuff. Instead of being relient on the constant threath of loosing your #google account. Or what about losing your centrally accessed #twitter account because #elonmusk thinks you are not worty of his platform?
Any #FOSS / #selfhosting enthusiasts for photo sharing in my timeline?
We want to share 700 pictures of our wedding weekend.
I tried Piwigo -- it's cumbersome, but it allows guests to upload stuff form their mobile phones. (In theory)
I tried PhotoPrism -- it's sleek and responsive, but I can't create nested-albums and share the parent one (e.g. wedding day → party vs wedding day → ceremony)
I am really getting the hang of #Selfhosting stuff. Adding a new domain and website? Copy/paste dns settings. Add a simple server stub to my nginx.conf, run certbot --nginx -d domain.name and done. After it is running, add an index.html or setup a container and do some forwarding. Nice!
Put it off for quite a while but I finally migrated from the deprecated linuxserver/unifi-controller container to the new linuxserver/unifi-network-application container to my unifi control plane.
I got a new switch that required at least unifi 8.1 and i was lagging behind on 8.0.27.
the new network-application requires a mongo db container. no big deal. but i had to export a full site backup and start from a clean slate with the new 8.1 system. no in-place upgrade supported. was fairly painless tbh, just a bit of a pallavah and an exercise in yak shaving i could have done without tonight. #selfhosting
Musieliśmy opracować narzędzie do demokratyzacji hostingu wideo, więc musieliśmy je zaprojektować z myślą o radykalnie innych wartościach.
I to właśnie zrobiliśmy. Zbudowaliśmy PeerTube, aby wzmocnić pozycję ludzi, a nie baz danych czy udziałowców."
What's the easiest way to self-host a single-user Mastodon instance? (Also interested in other fediverse platforms that may be easier to host/manage). Thanks!!!
Set up ntfy.sh yesterday and am really digging its flexibility. Admittedly I've got no clue how to integrate like... 90% of what it's capable of, but being able to roll my own push notifications for things like media, uptime, and automations from Home Assistant.
I've set up a simple bash script to update a DNS record for my domain with CloudFlare whenever my home IP address changes, this effectively using CloudFlare as Dynamic DNS service:
Best free, #OpenSource, #linux based option for #SelfHosting file storage at home? Ideally with app support for copying to/from mobile devices and perhaps support for mounting drives in #windows. I know about #nextcloud and have tinkered with it. I don't love it as it seems to do too much.
Decided to sit down and try to learn #kubernetes despite the fact that I don't have any real need for it on my little home server. Still, it's been interesting and - I won't lie - a bit frustrating at times. It's very much like using a chainsaw to butter my bread for my use case, but I had a nice feeling of satisfaction when I succeeded in getting #owncast set up through it. I've had some odd issues with Docker failing to launch certain containers through containerd that I have not been able to figure out, however.
I was putting thought into maybe redoing my server setup with kubernetes but I sincerely worry that I'll run into this same containerd issue with some of my other apps.
Just in the last 24-48 hours, I have tried my best to bring up instances of GoToSocial, MissKey, CalcKey and Pleroma just to see what would work for a single user Fediverse instance. Guess who is winning right now?
Well, sadly it is time to say goodbye to #Jitsi. I understand why they dropped support for anonymous #videochat from the service, but frankly, #privacy was their one unique selling point. Requiring a #Google#Facebook or #Github account now only adds insult to injury.
So, what are the alternatives? Is #selfhosting viable?
do any of you use a #mastodon#selfhosting company that has a MOBILE FRIENDLY administration/moderation interface? it's gotta be one of the ones where you pay for it and they keep it updated for you, i don't want to fiddle with it too much, but i need to be able to do the admin/mod stuff that keeps it going FROM MY PHONE. i use android. it doesn't have to be mastodon specifically just something that hooks into the microblogging fediverse or whatever
