I'm using Ghost's blog software for my website. The only integrated option for the native #newsletter tool is #Mailgun.
Sadly, I don't have the know-how to run my own bulk mail server.
Do I best stick with Mailgun or do I go for option two, use a Czech-based #Zapier alternative (Make) that integrates with a German-hosted newsletter service? Or a 3rd option?
Depending on how much you self host, you may find it hard to keep track of your devices' host names. So what are your naming conventions to keep track everything? Some people stick to descriptive names, others pick themes, like Greek mythology....
Does anybody know of any good #podcast that talks about #selfhosting ? The one by jupiter broadcasting isn't bad for hearing about new software, but the one host being a true believer in bitcoin is really turning me off.
I've been listening to the Self Hosted podcast (episode 113) today morning and one of the things they mentioned was https://healthchecks.io
I gave it a go and it looks useful. It's a monitoring service to check if cron jobs or servers are running, and it's using a push method, server needs to ping the site to be considered working. It's awesome because this way I can monitor globally stuff that is not exposed to the internet. After a quick glace I can say I recommend it. #SelfHosting#HomeLab
Hey @ironicbadger, @popey, & other #ZFS#homelab users: what tools and processes do you use to back up your ZFS-based storage? Like most homelabers, I have a mix of file types and databases that I need to account for.

I gotta say since switching to FOSS finance tool, Actual Budget, I've been really happy with the experience. They've struck a nice balance between minimal, but powerful.
I disabled another relay, bringing down my list of federated relays to half. Only focusing on the #InfoSec and #cybersecurity relays currently. Will be reaching out to @mastohost probably this week to upgrade the server to a Constellation.
Also I will be setting this server to auto purge all posts after 730 days (2 years) regardless of user to save data. I don't think anyone cares about what you said 2 years ago when you Tooted into the universe. #MastoAdmin#SelfHosting#Fediverse#Mastodon
The macOS app I was talking about yesterday is out: Kei, my stupid-simple SSH key manager
I’ve been trying to add SSH authentication to my server for the 5th time, and I can never remember how SSH keys work. So I created this app to help me with it
It just occurred to me:
my next Self hosting challenge:
A streaming music service!
I'm trying to ditch streaming of music like Deezer (the modded app doesn't work very well), and so I'm downloading tons of music to my laptop.
But what if I want it available on my phone too while I'm away?
Only limitation is that if I'm doing it on my Pi, I have less storage than my computer.
It's so annoying that Mastodon has such small file size limitations. I compressed the HELL out of this video to a 2.25MB webm, and it's still too big!? C'mon, Jack. :joe:
🔴 Today on #SystemCrafters Live, we'll attempt to use Guix to self-host our own Git "forge" using Forgejo!
We'll package the Forgejo binary and create a Guix service so that it can be hosted in a container. We'll also see if we can wire up Laminar to launch CI builds when you push to repositories!
My #Proxmox journey started a month ago. I moved all my all my #docker containers and #HomeAssistant VM from my #Synology NAS to a testing MiniPC with Proxmox.
This test was very positive, so I decided to move to a new server. I'm using a cluster to move my LXCs and VMs. I'm very impressed by how simple the process is for a newbie like me. I just need to remove my snapshots before.
For what seems like ages .... (about 6-8 weeks), I did not want to touch anything on my yunohost mastodon app, because the webinterface was broken, but the barebones settings were accessible. And I could still toot via my mobile app.
Finally, the interface is up and running again, but I fear a mastodon-move will be in the works, as I find the yunohost masto version very dodgy and not well maintained.
Any tips on how I can install my own server and keep all data of this version in the new one?
Last year, I tried out #jellyfin, and found it great, but it missed one (for me) must-have feature; HDR support in the LG app. This made me stick with #plex.
But as Plex has gotten more enshittified, yesterday I decided to give Jellyfin another try. Happy to say that I can now watch HDR videos on my LG TV.
For the rest, I'm quite impressed with it. The only thing missing is a "skip intro" feature.
Guess I have no choice but to seriously look into learning #Docker now, as so many self hosted projects (that I've come across recently) have it as their preferred method of installation. 🤔
As my old NUC was showing its age, and didn't suffice for my #homelab needs anymore, I decided to build a new one. And because I prefer running all my #selfhosted in containers, but abhor fucking around with #docker and docker-compose, it's a single-node #k8s cluster, using #k3s, just like my old server. One big difference is that the new server has a decent amount of drives for storage. I decided to set up #zfs to manage that, and zfs is all it's cracked up to be.
