United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC) has selected #Element as its #secure communications platform, following a competitive #tender process.
Element stood out as a digitally sovereign platform which offers end-to-end #encryption. Its ability to be #federated to support multiple organisations was also a key factor in the #selection process.
#UNICC will self-host Element through an Element Enterprise subscription.
@cwtch is by far my most favorite #secure#messenger. it's #serverless, and end to end encryption (#e2ee) is built in with #tor onion services. no setting up any infrastructure required, it's built on the back of the distributed @torproject operator network. no phone number is necessary, and you can have isolated IDs (profiles) for everyone you talk to
"Quick" Question: If you would build a new #web#application, what would currently be "the best" development language and/or #framework (#webframework) for that?
"Best" as in reliable, #secure, easy to get personal and future proof?
The last I’ll say on Beeper/Apple/iMessage debacle:
I think it’s within Beeper’s right to attempt at reverse engineering iMessage, but not Apple’s responsibility to be forced or even expected to host Beeper customers. It’s clear Apple doesn’t want to and I don’t blame them. If this ever went to court, Apple would obliterate Beeper—even if they switched lawyers. It’s not Beeper’s right to push the burden and expense of hosting on Apple.
Some well-IP-distributed network has figured out one of the user names for one of my #dovecot servers, and seems to be attacking it. It's slow, but several times an hour, the same account gets an auth failure, from IP addresses all over the world.
I wonder why I would be a #target. Might just be a public email address, I guess.
I think I might change my password to something a bit more #secure, but then just silence the log messages. I have to have that username on that service up.
Hey! I’m currently on Fedora Workstation and I’m getting bored. Nothing in particular. I’ve heard about immutable distros and I’m thinking about Fedora Kinoite. The idea is interesting but idk if it’s worth it. CPU and GPU are AMD. Mostly used for gaming.
I believe Universal Blue supports Secure Boot, since they specifically went to make it work for even Nvidia users - I’m assuming it works similarly for the non Nvidia variants or maybe just uses Fedora’s default keys? I’m not too well versed in how SB works.
Then it also comes with Distrobox so you can just spin up an Arch container and use AUR apps through there.
Nothing quite angers me like using an app that recommends to me people that I “should” know.
Which means that person probably allowed the app access to their contacts.
Giving an app access to your contacts is like spreading a venereal disease. Now this app knows who I am connected to, and can probably figure out why and how. That’s more information than I wanted to give them.
Don’t give apps access to your contacts. It’s not just your privacy that’s at stake.
@Mrfunkedude@Mikal The same boundary is crossed when you tag someone in a photo/post you upload. Granted, there are options in #facebook settings that prevent that but its not on by #default.
Again: #MonoclesChat + #Orbot and one of many #XMPP servers and you get #secure comms and even if the provider/admins are held and gunpoint and forced to log everything, all they see are #Tor#ExitNodes and/or other @torproject Tor nodes and only scrambled stuff...
We're also pleased to have @cdteurope's Iverna McGowan moderate the discussion 🌟 & to hear from Noémie Levain, Legal Expert at @LaQuadrature, Beatriz Ramalho da Silva, Investigative Journalist at @lhreports & Bart Staszewski LGBTI+ activist, founder and chairman of Basta Fundacja 🤩
All I see is a huge-ass #honeypot that puts #ANØM to shame and gets #TechIlliterates into a false sense of security like a 10kW floodlight does to moths...
If they were interested in it being #secure, they'd decentralize it so hard that even if one were to put a gun on every single of their staff members at once they could not shut it down.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tues delivered an impassioned speech to world leaders at #UNGA, pushing for sustained support for his embattled nation’s fight against #Russia as he embarked on a delicate mission to bolster his cause globally & in #Washington, Ukraine’s most important partner.
And after a >1½ of war, leaders from some developing nations are increasingly frustrated that the effort to support #Ukraine is taking away, they say, from their own struggles to drum up enough #money to adapt to a #warming world, confront #poverty & ensure a more #secure life for their citizens.
Opinions on immutable distros
