Just a privacy reminder: if you're going to post a picture of your mail, make sure to blur or remove any barcodes on that mail. Every piece of USPS mail has a bar code with your full address on there. Zip Code + 4 extension (which is your neighborhood) + house # (which translates to your exact house).

If you used M2 in Opera and enjoyed it, you really should be using Vivaldi Mail (M3).

If you have never used M2 or M3, maybe it is time to give it a try?

Oh what joy. Seems like .app on no longer allows sending uncompressed 2.2 MB JPEGs.
My server advertises 250-SIZE 157286400 (accepts messages up to 150 MB) and base64-encoded 2.2 MB binary would weigh roughly ~2.86 MB.

What non-3rd party options are there to transfer pics from to laptop nowadays?

Anyone here and knows some stuff about servers? Question: I want to use a TLD with .test extension (*) as sender address (for testing purpose). Another assumes that every properly configured mail server will refuse emails with this sender. Anyone with opinions about and experiences with that?

Canada Post proposes new postage rates for 2024

Price of a domestic stamp in a booklet, coil or pane would rise to 99 cents

Canada Post is proposing to increase postage rates in 2024. For stamps purchased in a booklet, coil or pane, which represent the majority of stamp sales, the rate would increase by seven cents, to 99 cents per stamp.

The new rates would take effect May 6, 2024.

Permanent stamps will always be accepted at the current domestic postage price.

The proposed rate changes would also affect other products, including U.S., international letter-post and domestic Registered Mail items. The price of a single stamp for a domestic letter (30 grams or less) would increase from $1.07 to $1.15. When purchased in a booklet, coil or pane, the price would increase from 92 cents to 99 cents per stamp.

Also fiddling with my #hamster configuration. Originally I just wanted it as a replacement for the leafnode #usenet proxy server on my windows machine, but #thunderbird and #Gmail are making enough problems lately that I wonder if using it as a proxy mail server wouldn't also be reasonable.

I mean, the program is like 5 mb in size, which 20 years ago might have been sizeable, but right now is a drop in the bucket.

@kyonshi@dice.camp avatar

Whoops, using as a tag for the / program of the same name might have been a mistake.
I mean, people who are talking about hamsters are generally not talking about proxy servers.

In fact even searching on Google for help has been a chore because the joke about server hamsters being tired has become so widespread it has replaced any discussion about the software.

Outlook app for Windows is Microsoft's new data collection service

https://www.ghacks.net/2024/01/12/proton-mail-says-that-the-new-outlook-app-for-windows-is-microsofts-new-data-collection-service/

some users in Europe who download the new Outlook for Windows app, will see a modal (pop-up) that displays a user agreement, which mentions that Microsoft shares your data with 772 third-parties. Yes, you read that right, 772.

Since when has revealed the sender's address in the email headers?!

Just seen this in an email I sent to myself from a account I manage with Apple Mail for example:

Received: from smtpclient.apple ([<MY_IP_ADDRESS>]) by smtp.gmail.com with ESMTPSA id

I have confirmed it on another email I received from someone, apparently, using Apple Mail with their Dreamhost account.

Seems like a concern to me!

Is there interest in a static software? Yes, you heard that right.

Thinking about creating a system for basically periodically scanning the inbox of a mail account, creating a draft which then can get approved or rejected by simply moving it to the appropiate folder. A is then picking it up and compiling the forum page again.

This would work with mailto links, so any email editor is already the writing tool.

Gave up on long ago myself and am a happy user, but my wife still uses Apple’s software. Yesterday she complained about having to manually flag as junk a message that got through the cracks, and the simple act of selecting the message forced her to see a graphic picture of an enlarged penis.

I went to check how to stop Mail from auto-loading embedded pictures and I found this UI. So now you can no longer block remote content without DISABLING “Protect Mail Activity”?

Here are the survey result for which email client people are using. There were 511 participants.

  • Vivaldi : 11%
  • Thunderbird : 41%
  • Other : 24%
  • Webmail only : 24%

Good to see so many having switched to @Vivaldi. It is still early days. Also great to see that so many see the importance of using a mail client instead of Webmail only.

Vivaldi dropping another update to their fabulous browser, now version 6.6. Come raise a brief, appreciative eyebrow over these with me:

🔹Use your favourite Extensions in Web Panels

Big one for me, this. Without the extra protection and conveniences afforded by extensions (entering passwords, etc) this feature was useless for me. This opens it up for possible use again. 👍👍

🔹Get an Instant overview of website permissions

...Instead of scrolling through a cramped pop up or diving into deep settings. Nice. 👍

🔹Faster Translations with Vivaldi Translate

To be tested, but very welcome if they've sorted the Automatic Detection out that routinely fails to recognise commonly spoken languages. A BIG plus for this service over rivals is that there's no user-tracking whatsoever, and no third parties involved. (Tentative 👍)

🔹Dark Mode? Set your preferred website colour theme

Potentially huge if I can ditch The Dark Reader extension I keep fighting with. (Tentative 👍👍)

🔹Find your messages with an Improved Mail Search

Lol, I wasn't unable to find my emails before, they've done themselves a disservice here with their wording, but I definitely appreciate finer-grained and more accurate results. 👍

🔹Migrate your data of Notes and Reading list

And last but by no means most...nice to have but I can't see an obvious use case for it. 🤏
