A National Capital Commission survey of the region’s population shows that a majority of residents are in favour of its “active use” policies for parkways in Ottawa and Gatineau.

According to the poll, 69 per cent of the 10,700 respondents supported the NCC’s “commitment to car free experiences on the Capital’s scenic parkways.” Not surprisingly, the number was 85 per cent among those who took advantage of the open road policies.

Trying to call 311 to report a pedestrian safety hazard and the #OttCity system just told me to call back on a weekday during business hours and hung up on me. Traffic signals issues can't be reported online (last I checked). What a terrible disservice - and hazard! - to the citizens of #Ottawa. How many people will give up trying to report hazards when they encounter this! #OttWalk #OttBike

Looking forward to trying this out. Perhaps this aft.

The Chief William Commanda bridge, connecting Ottawa and Gatineau, is now open. The bridge links multi-use pathways on both sides of the Ottawa river.

With the opening of the Chief William Commanda bridge, it was time to create an update of my subway style #bike map with routes of the Canadian #Ottawa #Gatineau capital region #ottbike #ottwalk (and yes, not all mups are on here). The map shows a network of routes, simular to how subway maps look like, to visualize the cycling opportunities on multi use pathways in the area. This map doesn’t show bike lanes on roads.

In addition to pointing out that not all bike rides are recreational on QED, we should qualify more car trips as recreational. Driving to a recreational destination (e.g. movie or dinner or football game at Lansdowne) is a recreational use of the roadways.

Thinking of absolutely apalling #ottbike “detours” in #ottawa the non existent work being done at NDHQ on Laurier bridge and closing the entire sidewalk plus bike lane is going to get someone killed. They’re forcing people into the road for nothing. A real city would close the lane to preserve the bike lane and pedestrian access.

In some locations in Germany, bicyclists get foot rests and railings at traffic lights.

, please keep an eye out for my friend's blue Norco stepthrough bike with "bunch of leftist stickers." It was stolen off his porch in Centretown last night.

Also, note to be extra careful securing your bikes in the neighborhood.

Last Sunday, I hung out at the Hartwells Locks in #Ottawa. I counted over 100 people with a bike crossing the locks in 20 minutes. That is >300 an hour.

Lots of people with e-bikes now and several people struggling getting the bike on to the locks. This definitely needs improvement.

Lots of older folks, clearly touring for the morning or the day, so happy to see that. Our pathways allow for great routes with little interference from car traffic.

A person in a blue shirt cycling on a bike (that appears a bit too small). Another person is looking away with his arms crossed. An historic lockmaster's house is seen in the background.
Three people are crossing locks at a canal. the old winch system is visible. One person has a a basket on the front and a milk crate at the back. The other two cyclists are walking their bike too, in shirts and T shirts. Lots of green in the background.
Over a dozen people with bicycles are visible in a a setting of trees and locks at the Rideau canal. Several people are waiting to cross, while others just crossed and are regrouping.

First #CriticalMass of the season in #Ottawa . The weather wasn't great with a bit of rain every now and then, but still a lot of people showed up. I'm impressed!

Hey #ottbike! Does anyone have a recommendation for an e-bike sold in Canada that’s comparable to the Radio Flyer Via? Looking for something that could safely hold two children <150lbs combined.

Nothing radicalized me more than living without a car. I firmly believe it’s a literal and metaphorical vehicle for the future. It opens you up to your community. It can make you feel joy when there are many days right now where it’s conflicting to feel joy.

I think more people should become radicalized. Life is a lot different, a lot better, change is scary and every fucking minute of it is worth it

Wild how it took so long to do something so simple. Not that I long to visit the byward Market but Majors Hill or Rideau Falls were rarely on the list of destinations if this was the direction of travel. But this makes basic access possible especially with the bridge open and the new NCC lookout on the +50% complete?? status #ottawa #ottbike #biketooter

Breaking! City to close all bridges to car traffic due to inclement conditions, said no one ever.

Same city perfectly ok throwing people on bikes into car traffic rather than keep a safe active mobility bridge open. Ridiculous is an understatement. #ottbike #ottawa #BikeTooter

"The school bus driver wasn't hurt, police said.”

Such a stupid thing to say.

Aside from the obvious bus>>bike aspect, I am sure that the bus driver was, in fact, harmed by the incident.
