The kid ate shit twice on a bike ride of less than 2 km because this city gives zero shits about wildly large curb cuts (and everything else). The fact that Britannia intersection by Beachconers is as horrid as it is being, I’d argue one of the most busy intersection for folks not in a car is proof enough. And the entrance to the kids school is soooooo bad and busted up that its almost impossible to enter on a bike and the kid ate it right in front of his own school #ottawa#ottbike#biketooter
For the forth time, volunteers across Canada fan out to count cyclists and pedestrians in the second week of June. Will you volunteer a few hours too? #ottbike
Step-daughter of a friend of ours saw the 11-yr old kid get killed in Rockland, by someone driving a school bus, while they were riding their bike. What the fuck…
I’ve said it a bunch of times but I completely changed the route we take to the kids school which is only 1.2 kms away. We take a ~ 2 km route to avoid the utter mayhem that takes over people during drop offs and pick ups, esp school bus and transport vans #ottawa#ottbike#biketooter#onpoli
A road has to be closed for possibly a week bc a driver (not ‘a car’) does something stupid. Just imagine someone on an #ottbike would cause a road to be closed for a week and it would be the most read article on CTV for days with the traffic trolls out in full force.
Did the Ottawa River-Pinecrest Creek-Experimental Farm-Canal MUP loop this afternoon. Decided to stay west of the Canal, which was a mistake, but super nice ride other than that Parliament-War Museum segment (when will behind Parliament reopen??).
Next time I think I should cross the canal, take the Alexandra Bridge to the path on the north side of the Ottawa and cross back on the Commanda (which I think was closed today).
Commanda Bridge to Alexandra Bridge to the Corktown Bridge is the best parkway to QED connection on weekends. Esp with the new separated lane by the Senate building now, it’s the lowest stress route we’ve taken in a long time #ottawa#ottbike#biketooter
This business felt a bit stretchy on the parkway today but… it’s at least something that’s not flexi-posts?!! Also the whole idea that the parkway couldn’t be single lane is bullshit. The problem at island park is one of public transit, not a lack of lanes for car traffic #ottawa#ottbike#biketooter
Saturday: Slept in, puttered around, and timing worked out for me to join the Critical Mass Ride through the city. Came across @jessrawk near the end, so I stopped to catch up.
My world for a uni-directional eastbound lane on the parkway and a permanent westbound lane for active use so this could be a permanent loop #ottawa#ottbike#biketooter
I despise this road so much. Folks regularly drive 70-80km/hr (I know because the speed boards are always fucking red) and when you’re forced to be closer to the edge… fully despise the no shits given #ottawa#ottbike#biketooter
The Yuba’s version of an oil change. Degreasing, soap, wash, scraping, more soap, wiping etc etc. gunna take it in for a one-year check up, make sure the brakes still have life and such. I’m slowly getting better at working on and taking off more parts, but don’t want to go too far #ottawa#ottbike#biketooter
Hey #ottbike! Does anyone have a recommendation for an e-bike sold in Canada that’s comparable to the Radio Flyer Via? Looking for something that could safely hold two children <150lbs combined.
The #NCC is still the NCC. Putting mulch down for tulip festival because it’s pretty but leaving the muddy and flooded path as is. The ruts the covered with mulch are only there because so many pickup trucks drive through the park. Stay dry #ottwalk and #ottbike#ottawa
Reminder: #ottbike#ottwalk#Ottawa a bit under the radar, but perhaps a nice thing to spend an afternoon on. Just learned about it last weekend from World of Maps owners.
