It was a good morning for looking at birbs in the neighborhood on our ride to skool.
From woodpeckers to cardinals to nuthatches to birds of prey. 👌 #OttBike
This looks so great. I want this for #Ottawa#Gatineau. I worry the loss of our mayor might make it less likely, but the more positive examples the better. The all season part is key.
Last year I created a food map of the #Ottawa Merivale Road area. I counted a lot more places than I had expected. This year I recreated it, with an overview of who’s new and who’s gone. Spoiler alert: Italian is decreasing, Asian is growing.
So wonderful to see kids, parents, and dogs enjoying Ottawa’s first School Street Program at École Trille des Bois on Rue Alice.
Thanks Councillor Plante and the school council for your advocacy and hard work making this pilot happen and hopefully we will see more School Streets in Ottawa!
A National Capital Commission survey of the region’s population shows that a majority of residents are in favour of its “active use” policies for parkways in Ottawa and Gatineau.
Trying to call 311 to report a pedestrian safety hazard and the #OttCity system just told me to call back on a weekday during business hours and hung up on me. Traffic signals issues can't be reported online (last I checked). What a terrible disservice - and hazard! - to the citizens of #Ottawa. How many people will give up trying to report hazards when they encounter this! #OttWalk#OttBike
The National Capital Commission has released the results of a survey of its summer active-use program that includes closing a stretch of the Queen Elizabeth Driveway during the day to vehicles.
Of those surveyed, 88 percent said they approved of the program.
Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe has, on many occasions, been vocal about his opposition to the closure that stretches from the Pretoria Bridge to Lansdowne.

With the above freezing temperatures coming up, I'm going to give my bike a bath to get off the grime and (most importantly) salt. Any tips? Usually I just hose it down but want to do a bit more.
@shawnhooper@Dogsbody i'd love to see empirical studies on this, but anecdotally, i'd say it's definitely true here, especially since the pandemic, as you say.
it's really changed where and how i #ottbike, mostly replacing road riding with pathway riding. it bums me out so much, but the number of people i see just plain not looking out their windshields scares the crap out of me.
-Side streets to Byron, basically choose your own adventure.
-Byron to Roosevelt, the pathway is clear but not accessible at side streets, just use the road. It's low traffic.
-Roosevelt to Scott (extension), it's perfectly fine but the access to the MUP is blocked.
-Scott to Bayview, the south side is less than ideal. Usually only the sidewalk is clear. Bumpy, and the stupid curves on the bike lane are all snow storage. I switched north at Island Parks and it was much better
-Albert to Booth, probably the best maintained strip.
-Booth and Chaudière, frustrating as always. Also the bike lane on Chaudière is snow storage so I used the (empty) sidewalk.
ETA, last week it took me about 25 minutes to get in. Today it was 31. The difference is due to conditions.
