#OttBike Scavenger Hunt time! I took this photo in September 2014, probably along the Laurier SBL, but the photo isn't geotagged and the previous/next photos offer no clues. Can anyone figure out exactly where this photo was taken?
I’m still made about a #ottbike trip I made the other day.
I went out of my way to take protected infra. As soon as I left it, I turned left onto Gladestone in a protected bike box, but in front on a #OCTranspo bus.
Light turns green, and I go. The bus starts to pass me (this is fine!) but my thought was “wow, that’s close”.
Immediately the bus pulls to the right as he’s not even half way past me.
I am always surprised to see that the garbage collection area wall needed to be where it is. They could easily have made it a meter narrower or rerouted the path a bit. But no. #ottbike#ottwalk#ottroll (private property shortcut between Starwood Rd and Navaho Apt off Baseline)
Likely #stolen#ottbike at bottom of ramp at Max Keeping bridge, north side by stadium. A dark blue garneau bike. Great shape, but it looks like it is being stripped. #Ottawa
Question for #OttBike (maybe @Laskinator or @jleiper): what are you supposed to do going west on the Scott MUP at Westboro station? It's on my way home so I hit it when it's dark.
The signs are confusing. One sign points you towards the bus station which also has a no bikes sign.
Are you supposed to hop a short snow and ice bank into the road? Is there a path that's just blocked by construction stuff? (i.e. Are the fences blocking the behind the bus stop route actually there for a useful reason?) Is there a non intuitive un-or-poorly signed mup detour?
This station has always been terrible. I'm excited for it not to be terrible anymore.
The City of #Ottawa has been building more #ottbike#cycling infrastructure this year, from several large multi million dollar projects to more mundane short connections. Some projects are financed from underground infrastructure renewal, others from dedicating cycling, pedestrian #ottwalk safety budgets. Here is part 2 of my 2023 overview. Note: my web host has not been reliable, you may get a ‘resource limited’ message. Try later or refresh your browser. Working on it.
@ottawacity's handling of construction detours leaves much to be desired. The latest problem location? Preston between Carling and Prince of Wales beside the new Civic Hospital.
I am putting a list of new 2023 #ottbike infrastructure together. It’s more than I realized. Several projects are part of underground infrastructure replacements, which is a once in a lifetime opportunity to build #cycling (and renew or add #ottwalk infrastructure) Let’s have look at what the City of #Ottawa has built or nearly finished this year. Part 1 of 2 blog posts:
On the stretch of Carling past Andrew Hayden Park and the Nepean Marina where the City of Ottawa won’t plow the north side cycle track and multiuse path, there were (as I counted) four cyclists for every pedestrian in the south side sidewalk.
I was surprised, too, because most of my fellow #OttBike riders were men who I would’ve thought would take the “vehicular cyclist” route in the car lane.
Nice to see that EVERYONE is too scared to ride with the SUVs.
The question is, will it stay like it is out (rain ice mix) making the river mup a maybe for this week, or will it change to snow and I'll be stuck on Scott after Westboro until Spring? #OttBike
Last week I checked out the new Byron Ave. bike tracks in ##ottawa, separated from motorized traffic. They are nearly finished but due to expected snow I went out to take pics already to share with you. Here is how it looks like:
