Hey all - just started using kbin today as I'm not 100% happy with Lemmy and really enjoying it so far. I also use Mastadon a fair bit, and it'd be awesome to just use kbin for all my social media needs going forward, but I noticed that there doesn't seem to be a way to follow hashtags on the microblogging portion of the site...

Mastodon is so different to Twitter. I posted about green energy 4 days ago. I've had more than 1000 interactions with it. I've not had any trolling.

I've had numerous informative and interesting replies.

This is how micro-blogging social media should be! It's great.

My entirely anecdotal vibe explanations of Mastodon, BlueSky, and the Bird App:

*Disclaimer: I'm using all 3 for the time being but tailoring my content to each. This isn't sustainable long-term.

@nachtigall @Veritas #calckey has this. Its a #microblogging software with groups as well. Just that the groups dont federate as of yet afaik

Poll: How do you access Mastodon? (Please boost for reach, TIA).

Bigou,

@nixCraft I don't use #Mastodon, but another #microblogging service based on the #ActivityPub protocol. Its name? #Calckey. Please, remember that the #Fediverse is far larger than Masto, even when only counting microblogging.

As for what I use to access Calckey, it's the #webapp, but only because both #Android and #Linux lack decent #native_client_for_Calckey.

maxeddy, to fediverse

I am old fashioned in that I genuinely like client applications, which is why I tried 18 apps on Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows. These were the best ones.

https://www.pcmag.com/picks/best-mastodon-apps

Bigou,

@maxeddy Wish someone would do the same with apps for the services known as "the ". (, & , 3 services also based on , like Mastodon)

Not that there is much "key compliant" apps, like there is for Masto.

I’ve been trying out Blue Sky a bit this past week and it seems okay for the most part, but also insular and small. It’s definitely easier to use than the Don, though, which didn’t really make best use of its time in the spotlight tbh but my gut feel is that the Don will probably do better over time and even outlast it.

Bigou,

@omarsakrpoet The "Don"? If you speak of #Mastodon, please remember the #Fediverse is bigger than jest Masto, even if you limit yourself to #microblogging. (Like #Misskey and its forks, fox exemple.)

Still amused by all the posts declaring that " will never get any traction" because it doesn't have [insert completely unnecessary Twit feature here]. It's like people think Masto just suddenly appeared out of the ether six months ago. It's been here for years, and it's just fine. 😂

Bigou,

@j That, and is far from the only service of the . You have , the (, & ), , , , …

Most of which offer more functions than Masto does, and often add fuctions Twitter never had. (… Or have long since removed.)

tchambers, to internet

Lots of good discussion on #BlueSky and #Fediverse going on. These four questions dominate my thinking:

  1. Can the ATProtocol really scale and federate? This is a very open question.

  2. Can BlueSky's ATProtocol moderation work at scale? Or even NOT at scale? Blurry still.

  3. Can the #Fediverse and #Mastodon improve its UX and UI experiences faster than the these first two things occur?

Lastly:

  1. How quickly do robust Fediverse/ATProtocol bridges emerge?

@tchambers @activitypubblueskybridge Please, stop speaking of the #Fediverse like it was only #Mastodon. Even if you limit yourself to #microblogging, the Fediverse is larger than that! If you don't believe me, go take a look at #Misskey & it's fork #Calckey, #Plemora or even one of the numerous #forks of Mastodon.

4.000 characters - that's ... tempting 😆

Basically, it's enough for e.g.
... authors, who wanted to publish their short stories here
... personal blogs (not just "#microblogging")
... business blogs (thinking of my employer, who offers online language courses and blogs about it)

Guess, I'll have to test something 😏

Rad things about mastodon we take for granted

CW - these are amazing

Editing posts - hard to go back once you taste this

Alt text as the norm - total community enforcement

Replies - option to delist them so we don’t clog the feed

Timeline curating - we have near infinite timeline options with filters, lists, local, federated, hashtags etc

Muting - we can choose a time period!

Character count - 500 let’s you get an effing thought out

Ownership - we can own the damn thing ourselves

@jkbecker @seachanger @glynmoody

Massive step back for Mastodon ! I think @Gargon is giving up on decentralisation and getting behind the rat race started by bluesky.

Why would anyone join a bluesky clone if one can join bluesky itself ?

Easy to miss in Mastodon's latest update, but the most-requested features are indeed coming "soon:"

"...quote posts, improved content and profile search, and groups. We’re also continuously working on improving content and profile discovery, onboarding, and of course our extensive set of moderation tools, as well as removing friction from decentralized features. Keep a lookout for these updates soon."

I feel for @nova who is exiting and fast paced microblogging type of social media in general (based on the statement on Twitch). I myself not long ago thought about leaving social media behind all together.

The "social" media today is garbage and often only leeches energy out of you, bit by bit. I wanted to rid myself from that. I wanted to come back alive. After leaving Facebook and Twitter behind got more energy. But no matter how safe, free and open the platform is, it can become a mental burden and insidious time cruncher. We must remember that also good things can be tiring.

Calckey just had an update!

There's lots of bug fixes, but there's a few neat features that have been added such as:

  • New content warning design
  • Add continuation for thread reply level
  • Localization in Polish, Russian, Greek, Spanish, Japanese

Thrilling stuff!

Which bug fix/feature are you most excited about?
