I wouldn't say I made a habit of using #opensource software (free or otherwise), but I've been pretty happy with @libreoffice since well before I joined the #fediverse ... not that I'd say I've been using more#foss since then, although I've at least gotten started with #Blender and am trying to get my feet wet with @godotengine as well.
Blender & Houdini working at the same scale, with Maya being the odd one out. Initially we just scaled everything from Maya down by 0.01... but now that we are writing out USD files its time to bring Maya into the fold so that we can standardise
This is one of my first pendants in silver - I created the #art by combining a number of photos I took with imagery from the hubble #space telescope. The backing was designed in #blender, then created by #3dprinting it and making a silicone mold, pressing silver #metal clay into it, and then firing it to turn it into solid sterling silver.
The other day I discovered a new technique for myself in #Blender for UV unwrapping my models using a second, simpler mesh as a projector and lemmie tell ya... I feel like I just leveled up.
Has any of you #gamedev people ever had issues with negative scale in an #animation? Our #3D#artist loves to flip things by just applying negative scale, but it makes it into the animation #keyframes. That means the entire #geometry is flipped, including the #triangle winding order. This ultimately turns the mesh inside-out. I wonder if anyone ever came across this?
Ok I tried to do actual real grownup work but this #snooker match is way too engrossing, so knocking up a few basic #Blender models instead and the grownup work can be a problem for Future Me.
As you can tell from this pic, my modelling skills are as of yet very very basic. But we all start somewhere!
Hi, I'm looking to fill up my RSS feed reader a bit recently!
Anyone got recommendations for blogs, news source etc? Nothing too general/spammy.
General news, EU/German politics, cybersec (vulnerability reports), self hosting and programming (rust, nix...) and digital rights stuff. Also LGBT stuff. And computer graphics stuff can't hurt either! :)
No fedi accounts, for that I have fedi, though maybe youtube channels (i think you can subscribe to those via rss?)
Bah weep granah all!
In this weeks video, I used #Blender to recreate the #80s#transformers cartoon’s style using grease pencil and material nodes!
Watch the video linked below to see just how exactly I did it!
Been starting to think about using custom attribs on objects in #Blender to setup #USD prim types and purposes. Then setting those values upon .usd export. Would need to call the current exporter from my code, but feels very doable. Could even do the same on import. 🤔
Something I love in #Blender is the "Symmetrize" action in an Armature's Edit mode. It's like magic! Not only does it put the same bones on the other side, it also renames between right and left AND matches with other bones-- including the parent connections! I just did this with a set of hand bones, and they all connected automatically to the arm bone I already had on that side! Such an incredible time saver!
Some further tweaks to my #sculpting experiment; @welshpixie suggested it looked like the "Ecce Homo" fresco – don't blame me (too much) for this travesty 😛 #blender#b3d
