How would you park your #bike at a low #BicycleParking rack like the one in the photo? 👇
1️⃣ Front wheel in, no lock
2️⃣ Front wheel in, wheel locked to rack
3️⃣ Rear wheel in, no lock
4️⃣ Rear wheel in, wheel locked to rack
5️⃣ Rear wheel in, wheel and frame locked to rack
In the photo, the bike is parked 1️⃣ front wheel in and not locked at all.
Kia ora toot friends. (Hello in Māori language)
Tonight I am bringing some #transport, #bikes, #cycling, #urbanism and #antiCar#memes.
I hope you enjoy them and are radicalised like I am. Once you start seeing how we've been trapped by #carDependency you cannot unsee it again.
Let's fight for space for people, cities that are walkable, accesible, clean, green and safe.
Of course, please contribute your own memes to the thread and also radicalise your family, workmates and friends!
Any suggestions for where to hide an Air Tag on a bike? I’ve seen a few videos, and there are some good ideas there, like specialty bells and reflectors and cap tops on the handlebar connections. But my thinking is, if videos are being made about those locations, then bike thieves will also be learning where to check for them.
Feel free to DM me if you have any sneaky suggestions.
I love the idea of cities that are far more people-centred than most today, with properly flexible travel options and fewer cars… and maybe we’re not that far away (and not just in Utrecht). Today I had a large box to collect from my sister, so I had a nice run across London to her house, then a cup of tea, and then a PedalMe e-cargo bike arrived to take me and the box home. And it was FUN. More of this! #cities#bikes#ecargo#climate
I'm wondering why I see people with all these bikepacking setups and they don't use racks. So I look it up and people have some points pro and con, but the main takeaway seems to be that bags with no rack are harder to use but people think they look cooler.
This seems to be the deal with most modern mountain biking trends and gear.
For those unfamiliar with it, Lemmy is basically a federated version of Reddit, distributed across multiple servers like Mastodon. (For anyone who wants to delve further, lemmy.ml, beehaw.org, and aussie.zone are three popular Lemmy instances.)
From Mastodon, you can follow any Lemmy group by following its handle, exactly the same way that you would follow a Mastodon account. Any new posts to that group will then begin appearing in your Mastodon feed.
Even better, if you start a thread on Mastodon, you can also post it to a relevant Lemmy group just by including its handle in your post. (Please note this only seems to work with the first post of a thread.)
In the last 6 days the NY Times has run 4 articles about e-bikes -- all of them negative.
A few other stories the paper might consider:
🔹 E-bikes pollute far less than even electric cars
🔹 Compared to autos, e-bikes pose minimal risk to other people
🔹 Unlike cars, e-bikes provide exercise
It's really pouring now. 🌧️ Not riding my #bike today. It's fine. I love rain. Can't have everything, right? 🤪
I'm thinking I'll use Big Bike ⚪🚲 for the out of town ride on Monday -- ±40km each way. Battery power can do about 60km in ideal-ish conditions. I intend to ride on #PAS zero as much as possible.
If I take Grey ⚫🚲 it can supposedly do 100km but... I dunno. Should be enough. But it's no good for me on PAS zero.
Me thinks ⚪🚲 is still a better ride for long trips. 🤔 #eBikes#bikes
I saw a guy on a cargo bike, with his kid on the back, at night in downtown. He had a tiny little rear light and a tiny headlight pointing straight down at the front tire.
You gotta do better than this people. Get your shit together. People have to be able to see you and you have to be able to see if you're riding on the street at night.
Also, cargo bikes should come with integrated lights. They are street vehicles. You don’t have to buy light kits for cars and motorcycles.
For #FollowFriday a few of us would like to follow anyone interested in #bikes. Is there a list of such accounts? If you like or boost, you will certainly get a follow from me.
Someone posted this picture of Linda Ronstadt on a bike in 1978 and I wondered where the bike shop was, it reminded me of a shop in North Hollywood I don't think is there anymore, at Ventura Place, Ventura and Laurel Canyon maybe?
I don't know why, I'm sure there's a million bike shops that look like that. But now I can't remember the name of it.
Please help me find more content for my feed. It's currently too depressing, and full of #abpoli and #uspolitics and global disaster doom and gloom. I like local content, and #bikes, #urbanism (less so the doom and gloom stuff), #travel, #families, #animals & #nature, and fun random stuff. Most of the podcasts etc that I followed on bird site haven't migrated. 😢
In 2023, word was it would be the last production season of the Surly Big Dummy (non-electric) cargo bike. It's still for sale today. https://surlybikes.com/bikes/big_dummy But they have made some changes that not everyone is happy with, including using a single chain ring up front and removing the mount points for a centerstand like the one that Xtracycle made for it originally.
