Google translate is horribly wrong in thinking that the anime "Delicious in Dungeon" is "Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon" in Japanese.
I'm guessing that google thinks that Anime + Dungeon = DanMachi.
Anyone else getting hit with a lot of #spam today - much of it in #Japanese? Or is it just me? Sad to see that #Mastodon has reached this point in its evolution as a mainstream platform now...
It's #JMusicFriday this time I would like to dedicate this to my late uncle, who died last Wednesday and is getting buried today, so I want the thene to be about sad songs/songs about death. The Hashtag is #SadorDeath
White media outlets desperately need to stop using the phrase "the #Japanese art of"
It's always some cringy #weeb shit article written by a white journalist with "good intentions". I hear the road to hell's paved with them.
im an absorjuxeraflux agirl, meaning im agender by default but will absorb feminine traits as i hang around people with fem aligned genders. im also cupioriaroace which means ah out of character lim
Googling Japanese dictionaries a bunch because I know I'm hearing the sounds correctly, but can't figure out the words. Apparently, one character speaks almost exclusively in slang with terms like https://kotobank.jp/word/あたぼう-425260 which is short form slang for あたりまえだ、べらぼうめ.
In 1986, #YKK Global (famous Japanese zipper+ maker) created their own PC system: FACE16. I've been trying to find more info on this system online, but to no avail.
I've found photos from one Japanese blog, with no replies from the blog owner. I've also gotten information back from YKK Global, but it was relatively generic ("standard parts... office use")...
Is anyone out there having an amazing experience with #pixelfed? I feel like it's not as fun as #instagram for me. I recently switched from the beta #android app to #pixeldroid and am liking the layout change, but still not feeling the community/engagement aspect.
Worth noting that I joined a Japanese server to work on my #Japanese. Honestly could be a big part of it. Perhaps bigger server = better quality interactions?
Hi friends, I just discovered the best thing ever and I have to share it:
This is a video of someone playing a #metal song using a #Japanese traditional #guitar / #lute Chikuzen Biwa
That moment when you're learning #Japanese, and you wonder "How to say 'United States' in Japanese?", and someone answers "アメリカ". Son of a b*tch, I didn't wonder how to say #America, I wondered how to say #UnitedStates :ablobcatgooglymlemjumping: 🤡
ok so right now i can recognize more or less abt 200 #kanji and as someone who recently couldn't make heads or tails of the script i take that as a win! #languagelearning#japanese

Loanwords in language are interesting. The word Revenge リベンジ in Japanese is used both in usual way as well as to mean 'revenge match', like a second chance at something that a person has failed at. It's sometimes used stylistically like that in English, but the Japanese use it as though it's the literal meaning.
Spoilers for Oshi no Ko:
They use the first meaning a lot since the end of the prologue and the latest story arc focus on the second. The characters are getting a second try at telling Ai's story.
I learned a character in #japanese the other day that was defined as amount; or picture frame. 🤬
I was swearing at that--how can one word have meanings that dissimilar? How can I remember that?
But then today walking in the city I passed the Latitude nightclub. I'd seen that in other cities-- it is a good name for a nightclub, in the sense of permission to bend the rules a bit.
Or a line in the map marking distance from the equator.
