Then, finally some serious hiking, 16 km, 1000 altitude m. Excellent weather throughout. Fine views all along, even saw three golden eagles 🦅 (steenarend). Lucky me ☺️ totally nackered now 🏴🥾 I love #Harris#Hebrides#scotland
With Ms. #Alsobrooks’s come-from-behind victory in Tuesday’s primary, voters in November will most likely have the chance to double the number of Black women ever elected to the Senate.
Another Democrat, Representative Lisa Blunt #Rochester, is the odds-on favorite to win her party’s nomination in September for an open Senate seat in heavily Democratic Delaware.
If both win in November, for the first time, two Black women will serve in Congress’s upper chamber at the same time.
“It’s been a long time coming,” said Ms. #Moseley#Braun, who became the first Black female senator when she was elected from Illinois in 1992 and now serves as chairwoman of the United States African Development Foundation.
The second, from California, is now the vice president, Kamala #Harris.
A third, Laphonza #Butler, Democrat of California, was appointed to fill a vacant seat, but is not running for re-election
When Vice President #Harris met privately with Volodymyr #Zelensky at the #Munich Security Conference in February, she told the Ukrainian leader something he didn’t want to hear: Refrain from attacking Russian oil refineries, a tactic U.S. officials believed would raise global energy prices and invite more aggressive Russian retaliation inside Ukraine.
President #Biden will announce a new effort on Monday to reduce or eliminate #student#loan#debt for millions of borrowers,
an attempt to revive his goal of providing large-scale relief for Americans struggling to pay off their college loans, a person familiar with the plan said Friday.
Mr. Biden is expected to preview new regulations by the Education Department targeting millions of borrowers,
including those whose loans have ballooned because of accrued interest and others who can demonstrate financial hardship impeding repayment.
The proposed regulations are set to be published over the next few weeks.
Mr. Biden will speak about the effort during a visit to Wisconsin on Monday, which will coincide with an event on student loans with Vice President Kamala #Harris in Philadelphia.
The push is a recognition by Mr. Biden and his allies of the disappointment felt by his supporters
— especially young voters
— when the president’s first attempt to wipe out student debt was #blocked by the #Supreme#Court last summer.
The court said that the government exceeded its authority under federal law when it attempted to cancel up to $400 billion in student loans.
The #US abstention is likely to further strain US / #Israel relations amid sharp disagreements over Israel’s planned military offensive in #Rafah.
#Israeli DefMin Yoav #Gallant is in DC this wk, as the #Biden admin presses Israel not to attack the southern #Gaza city of Rafah. VP #Harris said such an offensive “would be a huge mistake,” w/ >1M people sheltering there. Asked if there would be “consequences” from the #UnitedStates for an Israeli op in Rafah, she said, “I am ruling out nothing.”
The #Biden-#Harris campaign just announced that it raised more than $53 million in February.
The team is reporting $155 million in cash on hand — the highest total amassed by any Democratic candidate in history at this point in the cycle, according to the campaign.

… after the US vetoes UN resolutions for permanent ceasefires THREE TIMES…
…and keeps funding the Israeli military with billions in funds every year.
But clearly they are finally afraid of losing the election so they’re doing their best to control the optics of their complicity in Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people.
Trump appointed three of the nine Supreme Court justices — Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett — more than any other president — and more than enough to swing the 6-3 decision that overturned Roe.
Trump is not shy about proudly reminding people of this.
During a speech in Big Bend, Wisconsin this week to kick off a nationwide “🔸Fight for Reproductive Freedoms🔸” Tour, a fired-up VP #Harris went off on Trump for his role in weakening abortion rights as the pro-abortion rights crowd roared with approval:

Today, an untold number of women are silently suffering — women who are being subjected to profound judgment; women who are being made to feel as though they did something wrong, as though they should be embarrassed, being made to feel as though they are alone.
And to those women, I say: We see you, and we are listening, and we see your incredible strength. And we are here with you. (Applause.)
And so, as we face this crisis, as we are clear-eyed about the harm, let us also understand who is responsible, shall we? The former President — hand-picked three Supreme Court Justices because he intended for them to overturn Roe. He intended for them to take your freedoms. And it is a decision he brags about.
A couple of weeks ago, he said that, for years, quote, “They were trying to get Roe v. Wade terminated.” But he said, quote, “I did it. And I’m proud to have done it.”
Proud? Proud?
Proud that women across our nation are suffering? Proud that women have been robbed of a fundamental freedom? Proud that doctors could be thrown in prison for caring for their patients? That young women today have fewer rights than their mothers and grandmothers?
How dare he.
And the extremists are not done. This afternoon, in the Wisconsin Legislature, extremists will hold a hearing on a new bill that would ban abortion in this state with no exception for rape and incest.
And in the United States Congress, extremists are trying to pass a national abortion ban to outlaw abortion in every single state.
But what they need to know is that if Congress passes a national abortion ban, President Joe Biden will veto it
I asked Rep Don Bacon (R-NE) if the House GOP requires any #Speaker to be a 2020 election denier. He said no… but then acknowledged it remains a divisive issue that is splintering the House GOP.
Bacon says he believes the results of the 2020 election
Yes, Rep Bacon says he’ll vote for Rep Johnson to be speaker. Other House Republicans, including Rep Ralph Norman (R-SC) predict overwhelming, if not unanimous, GOP vote for Johnson
Finally, #MikeJohnson is now second in line to the US presidency. #Biden and #Harris should not be seen in the same place at the same time anymore. Can't believe I had to say that, sorry everybody!
