When people tell you who they are like Republicans have been doing since 2016, I just can't comprehend why so many Americans are still not voting.
8/ And as some commentator on MSNBC noted last night, the group of Republicans who could band together and prevent this have caved before, and they're caving now.

@GottaLaff@todwest I'm trying to figure out when a contested election would be voted on in the House. It seems that's the plan right now to me. Or the one the GOP thinks is most likely.
@GottaLaff It will be the new congress elected in 2024 in charge of certification of the electoral college results. So house elections in purple districts will be absolutely critical. But there is plenty of room for mischief before then too.
@GottaLaff My money's on them voting for Jim-Jordan-in-a-sport-coat (I can't remember where I saw that, but it's so eloquent) even rushing it through, because they don't want to get blamed for shutting the government down, again. Although, I could be wrong and maybe they're going for a shutdown. It might be their new kink. Who knows?

@GottaLaff Legitimately don't mean to sound ignorant on the pulse around the country: but is that really a safe bet these days? Are all Republican voters guaranteed to be swayed by this?
Because I may be in a bubble where all I see and hear are Republicans dissatisfied with the continued charade, who don't want Trump or his similar anymore 🤷♀️
@GottaLaff Fair, I just interpreted the second statement as meaning voters. Think I'm just a little shocked at how quickly they all went belly-up this time. Though I suppose they're that desperate and disgusting, so it shouldn't be a shock anymore.

@GottaLaff you will see , Trump is deteriorating rapidly , you can see all the gaffes in his speeches , the pressure of his legal problems is taking a toll , it will be a combination of circumstances but he won’t be president, believe me .
@GottaLaff I always say that there are True Believers and Power Seekers. The Power Seekers might admit in private that the whole MAGA/Trump thing is bad, but they'll go along with it as long as it gets them more power.
If they ever reach a limit to what they'll put up with, they are replaced with True Believers. This replacement will happen, less frequently as the remaining Power Seekers will be willing to put up with more to keep their power.

I said a long time ago that the only way out of the mess the election of trump caused was through prosecution. Biden's choice of milquetoast merrick doomed the country.
@dsmdexter Well that's weird. His choice of Smith resulted in 2 major cases against Trump, and there are several others.
We can't blame Garland.
And the courts can't save us. Marc Elias, the expert in that, has said as much. They can only stop so many things, like Trump from walking the streets, maybe taking office again. But he can win and be pres from prison, legally.
@GottaLaff garland waited a year to appoint Smith. The doj "investigated" gaetz for a year while delaying his associates sentencing, then walked away. Garland has slow walked everything since day one. We have a better chance of trump dying of a heart attack than getting sentenced before the next election.
Finally, #MikeJohnson is now second in line to the US presidency. #Biden and #Harris should not be seen in the same place at the same time anymore. Can't believe I had to say that, sorry everybody!
@GottaLaff As a citizen of one of those states I'm going to be so enraged if/when Johnson gets the gavel. You won't catch me voting for a single GOP candidate in any race, not even game warden. If a GOP candidate runs unopposed I'll write somebody in.
@GottaLaff@oreoteeth I live in Kansas, so I have, in the past, re-registered as Republicans so I could vote in their primary against the worst of two terrible options. I always immediately changed back to another party or no affiliation after that. It worked one of those years. But that guy (the really bad choice) persisted, as they do, and now has power at a state level. He is a fascist idiot, as many of them are.

People wonder why Millennials & people under 40 aren't moving over to the GOP. In my experience, it's because the party has been dysfunctional and anti-human for my entire adult life. Why would I vote for that? 🤷♂️ I've never seen a kinder, gentler, GOP. My early political memories were Gingrich et al

@GottaLaff As always, "moderate" Republicans talk a good game, but it is just talk. The party would not exist if it were not for the antiquated Constitution.
