Singapore buying 2 new 600MW natural gas ("fossil gas," as @drvolts says) power plants by the end of the decade. Power demand is rising, "driven largely by electricity-intensive sectors such as advanced manufacturing, digital economy, and transport" and projected 3.7% annual growth.

A rare moment when a video title is not clickbait. Great report from DW Planet A on energy system inefficiencies. I've wonder whether talking more about efficiency and waste to climate skeptics might bring them on board with green policies. Personally, I don't care how we do it, as long as we get to the same end result of a more sustainable world.

Eventually we'll run out of places to colonize.

But perhaps not before the climate crisis spins out of control.

#Climate good news:

The world's largest battery-electric container ship, Greenwater 01, has started regular service between Shanghai and Nanjing.

The Greenwater 01 is 394 feet long and 78 feet wide, and the main battery needed to power it has a capacity of over 50,000 kilowatt-hours — more energy than it would take to power four average-sized households for an entire year. Even more battery capacity can be added for longer journeys.

And speaking of climate solutions, have you seen a video of a heavy duty EV truck getting their battery swapped yet?

Well, this is going to be how we're going to be able to transition away from fossil fuels in that sector imo.

And just imagine how easy it'll be to use those batteries for grid storage after they've degraded too much for EVs too!

No mention of fusion energy at least at the top level of in BNEF's New Energy Outlook 2024 report, which is no surprise given its unproven abilities. But at Commonwealth Fusion Systems, we're working hard to carve out a big wedge alongside solar and wind for zero-carbon electricity. Our first machine is under construction, and we want to put power on the grid in the early 2030s. https://about.bnef.com/new-energy-outlook/

U.S. military has partnered with Sage geothermal company to install energy storage.

EarthStor is a mechanical energy storage technology that taps into the pressure energy of fluid stored deep underground. When electricity supply surpasses demand excess electricity is used to power pumps and inject water below ground. Then, when the grid needs it the heated pressurized water can drive turbines that generate electricity.

On the potential for green H2 cost reductions through experience:

"electrolyzers account for only around one third of the cost of green hydrogen. The rest is driven either by the cost of green electricity – already far down its own experience curve – or by the cost of heavy engineering components – stuff like compressors, tanks, valves, pipes, power supplies and site infrastructure, which are not about to fall off a cliff."

Look, I totally get it. Israel, tariffs, student loans, or his age might make you angry at Joe Biden.

All I'm suggesting is that unless you think he's doing whatever makes you angry is because he's doing only because he's evil than it's worth the effort to assume that for some reason(s) you may not understand forced him to make an unpopular decision because attacking him only helps the political party that seems at this point to actually be supporting evil imo anyways.

Let's take the Section 301 tariffs that impact our #EnergyTransition as an example. Joe Biden was able to get transformative legislation passed in a large part because he tied it together with helping to bring back American manufacturing jobs for compassionate as well as national security reasons.

Whether the cost to Americans from these tariffs greater than their benefit is a hard test to definitively answer so I wonder why so many people seem to know the answer better than Biden's experts?

It also highlights a widespread deficiency in many capacity expansion models: they don’t typically accommodate community-scale distributed resources that are in front of the meter.
