For the today, I was lucky, prepared, and (I feel) blessed enough to see four minutes of totality.

I was excited for this, but I was still blown away by the feeling and the experience. My body felt like it was experiencing twilight, then night, and then morning. In just those four minutes, in the middle of the day.

Thank you, for letting me visit. This was truly a highlight of my life.

Did you use a colander to see or take pics of the eclipse? I know we laugh at it, but I seriously enjoy seeing others’ colander pics. In such a divided time, at least we all have colanders in common! Anyone remember Hands Across America? This is like that, but with colanders 🤣 Please post your pics and use the hashtag #Colanderstronomy (and maybe #ColandersAcrossAmerica?). Here’s mine, from #Colorado:

Yay - work brought me to a place one might see something interesting on eclipse day. Then the weather got clear enough. Then the work thing had a large enough gap to do the seeing.

So I didn’t plan for it but I had a camera and a decently long lens and an unanticipated opportunity and got a couple of half decent shots I will keep a long time.

I think this is my favorite shot from today, still need to do a lot of processing and playing around things. Super happy with how skies treated us.

Impossible to capture with a basic phone's camera, but here is my blurry photo of totality anyways. :)

Higher speed shot of the eclipse at totality today. The corona is less pronounced, but you can see more fine detail in the plasma of the prominences.

Solar eclipse at totality this afternoon in Millinocket.

You can see the corona surrounding the darkened disc of the sun, with filament like structures radiating out from the sun in various lengths. On the bottom left you can see a bit of red from the prominences sticking out past the moon's shadow.

My eclipse pictures are on my photo blog: https://www.urbandinosaurs.org (though I do have to delete the Twitter link…).
For those who don't want to go there, here’s a picture of totality (note the solar prominences), and another of a post-totality crescent sun—it's smiling for the great show it gave us.

Solar eclipse watchers from Vermont and Arkansas topped the list of people searching Google about their eyes hurting after watching the April 8, 2024 eclipse. Most searches came from states directly in the path of the total eclipse.

Just got back from the #Eclipse2024 path of totality. I initially wasn’t worried about photographing the eclipse, despite how beautiful it was, because I figured the internet would have me covered. Sadly, it seems pictures can’t do the event justice. It was breathtaking

We just got home from our trip into Ohio for the eclipse. I've begun sorting out eclipse photos. Here's a nice one as totality hit: a diamond ring! If you look closely you can also see a solar prominence on the lower right, around four o'clock.

It’s nearly 9 PM and I’m watching a line of cars headed down 12 South into Montpelier, #Vermont. I typically see about a car a minute or so. Amazing the number of people that shared this celestial event together. #Eclipse #Eclipse2024

We had a super fun (surprisingly tiring) afternoon watching the #eclipse. The big zoom lens, telescope, and solar filters worked great. Neighbors came out and we watched the sun spots get covered up. The telescope had enough detail to see the craggily edges of the moon. Milli enjoyed the sun and observed some diffraction from inside. One neighbor said “you have the coolest gizmos on the block!” All things considered, it was a lovely experience, no regrets. #Astronomy #Astro #Eclipse2024

About 1/3 of the sun is being blocked by the moon, photo shot with 600mm lens and solar filter, dark sun spots are visible in a couple of places
Outdoor scene in a neighborhood, silver cylindrical telescope mounted on a tripod sits in the grass, blue sky with white clouds above, a large tree is on the left and a row of houses is on the right
Milli, a small grey cat, walks on a beige carpet in the sun from a window, small crescent moons are visible where the blinds have diffracted the light from the eclipsed sun

The total solar eclipse that we managed to capture in Cornwall, Ontario. We had to do quite a bit of driving to find a spot clear enough of clouds, but it was well worth it. A very exciting day with the family! #Eclipse #Eclipse2024 #photography
