We're not still buying DVDs, but we have kept our collection of a couple of hundred titles just in case we ever need to take a break from streaming services to save money. And I'm currently watching season 2 of Doctor Who because it isn't on any streaming services I subscribe to.
DVDs, Blu-ray revival: Why physical media is making a comeback
ONCE AGAIN: companies DO NOT GIVE ONE FUCK & will treat the Things you love w/ disdain & zero respect. ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS PROFIT and that means most will eventually fail, because their goals are not sustainable.
They don't want you to realize the lie of "buying" something digitally, which is: you don't REALLY own SHIT.
⭐ BUY PHYSICAL MEDIA IF U R ABLE, or be at the mercy of their capricious, greedy whims ⭐
I love Star Wars and I love physical media. This is what happens when those two meet. After 30+ years of collecting, there's even a couple VHS copies in there. (List is in the alt-text).
Long live physical media and May the 4th be with you.
DVDs work. They distribute like CDs and they play in DVD players or computers. And it's a digital format so, auto archived.
VHS is basically a not good format that nobody can play anymore. That's why VHS archiving is so important. Without VHS archiving we have a hole in history. #video#DVD#VHS
Es wird Zeit, sich von den Filmen auf DVD zu trennen und die Silberlinge auf Festplatte zu speichern. Lege die DVD am PC ein und starte den VLC-Player, den Rest erkläre ich Dir.

Tired of Streaming? Free Blockbuster Libraries Offer an Alternative. 📀 🍿 🎬
The neighborhood lending libraries have popped up around North America, offering a nostalgic return to DVDs.
Shortly after Free Blockbuster was launched, a lawyer for DISH Network, which now owns the Blockbuster brand, sent Mr. Morrison a letter asking he stop using the company’s logo and name.
忠誠 -
“The chū (忠) is made of the two signs naka (中) and kokoro (心). Naka means inside or middle, and kokoro means heart.
Loyalty is something that comes from the middle of your heart — isn’t that beautiful?”

emptying out some storage and found this and saw on the back “No DVD player?” and was like “that makes sense lots of people don’t have DVD players anymore” until I looked at it again and it’s “no, lots of people don’t have DVD players yet” xD
I now realised that I spent hours of my teenage and uni years learning and experimenting with #DVD authoring, to the point of creating interactive animated experiences, and by the time I reached a time in my life when I could try to make it into a job, the DVD was already dying as a medium. being a #millenial is having a lot of things like that happen to you.
Found my DVD+R drive for my Mac. Found a USB A to C adapter. The M1 Mac recognized there was a device!
Now to find if I have anything to test it with...
UPDATE: Found a CD-ROM of image files from 2002. It was dusty and some sticky stuff had grown on it. Soap, water, and a microfiber carefully applied fixed that. I then realized the label was paper... oopsy.
That said, the M1 Mac read perfectly from the DVD writer that contains 2010 on the base.
#CBC says the "glory days" of ad-free uninterrupted #streaming are gone.
No, no they are not.
I have ~800 #DVD/Blu-ray discs with digital backups on a #NAS. And I use #PeerTube (admittedly, mostly conference sessions.) I watch #podcasts which are not hosted on #surveillance economy sites. I listen to ad-free #audio streaming constantly.
What I DO NOT watch is CBC's streaming content, which were larded with #advertising, heavy surveillance. #Journalism#bias
