'The [U.S.] Justice Department on Thursday informed House Republicans that President Joe Biden has formally asserted executive privilege over the audio of his interview with special counsel Robert Hur, a move that DOJ says effectively shields Attorney General Merrick Garland from any criminal exposure as the Republican lawmakers move toward trying to hold him in contempt of Congress."
ABC News reports the Justice Department has already released a full transcript of the interview. The White House believes the audio would be used for "partisan political purposes."
The more I speak about #Biden's complicity in #genocide, the more desperate people are to tell me I must vote for him in six months.
This is what they focus on. Not the genocide happening right now but a vote that will happen in six fucking months.
They say the only way to stop the genocide is to make sure he stays in office. Again, they say the only way to stop genocide is by keeping the same person committing it in power.
Mind you, I haven't once indicated who I'm voting for, because it isn't the point. But also, I have ranked choice voting, so it's really not relevant. I don't have to vote for Biden to still vote against#Trump. I just have to rank the damned candidates, with Trump last. But again, this isn't even the point.
The point is that so many people who claim to care about genocide don't, and would rather focus on fighting me on my individual #vote 6 months away than a genocide happening right now.
The letters were sent hrs before #GOP-led #House Oversight & Judiciary cmtes were to advance a #contempt resolution against AG #Garland for defying a #subpoena demanding the recordings, which include hrs of Special Counsel Hur interviewing #Biden. #DOJ also sent #HouseRepublicans a letter Garland wrote Biden on Wed requesting he assert #ExecutivePrivilege bc releasing the tapes would “damage future #law enforcement efforts," as investigators request voluntary cooperation from #WhiteHouse ofcls.
Rachel #Maddow on Bradley W. Hart's superb "Star-Spangled Fascism" podcast:
"The harder thing for us to sort of sit with, as Americans, is that there have been fascistic tendencies, fascistic movements in America ... for longer than we like to admit."
I'm voting for Joe Biden in November and intend to continue donating to help him get reelected because: (1) the U.S. is in much better shape now than it was under the former president; and (2) many of the things that could be better (e.g., the makeup of the Supreme Court) are a direct result of the last president being in office.
No caveats.
No "even though..."
The rest of you can vote however you like, but my mind is made up.

"I can no longer in good conscience continue to represent this administration amid President Biden's disastrous, continued support for #Israel 's genocide in Gaza."
U.S. President Joe Biden and former U.S. President and presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump have agreed to debate in two televised broadcasts. These events are usually organized by the Commission on Presidential Debates, but the Biden and Trump teams directly negotiated the terms of the showdowns. The Biden campaign says the Commission “is out of step with changes in the structure of our elections and the interests of voters.” But there’s some strategic thinking involved in the move, too. Yahoo! News has more about the changes and why they’re important.
A US Department of the Interior staffer has become the first Jewish political appointee to publicly resign in protest of #US support for Israel’s #genocide.
Lily Greenberg Call, a special assistant to the chief of staff, accuses #JoeBiden of using Jews to justify US policy.
The ABC article does not actually include the resignation letter to #Biden. Here is that letter: #uspol
Lily Greenberg Call, who served as special assistant to chief of staff at the Dept. of Interior and previously a Biden-Harris campaign staffer, sent this resignation letter today⬇️

A damning article on the Biden administration's complicity in the famine in Gaza and the use of starvation by Israel as a weapon of war.
In an internal collective dissent memo drafted this month by numerous employees of USAID, the staff assail the agency and the Biden administration for its “failure to uphold international humanitarian principles and to adhere to its mandate to save lives”.
