A bipartisan group of U.S. senators is working through the weekend to forge a deal on asylum policy changes designed to reduce migrant crossings along the southern border, hoping to make a rare breakthrough on one of Congress' most intractable issues.

Germany's Cabinet on Wednesday approved legislation that would allow asylum-seekers to start working sooner, along with plans to stiffen sentences for smugglers.
Asylum-seekers would be allowed to work after three or six months after arrival, down from nine months.
Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck said the idea behind the legislation was to make sure that asylum-seekers were "out of the social system and into employment."

Thousands of #migrants subjected to the policy will be allowed to live & work in the #UnitedStates, at least temporarily. If they win #asylum, they could become #citizens.

At first I thought this was old news. When it comes to the southern border, the main difference between the parties and their policies is that one is loud and belligerent and the other is sneaky and gaslighty.
After protesters' experience successfully stopping the "shipping container wall" through the San Rafael Valley in Arizona last year, it's likely that any attempts by the Biden administration to build that wall will be met with direct action protests. @raymondpert The main reason for the collapse of the European asylum system is the fact that it is abused by people who don't qualify in order to enter and remain in the EU unlawfully.
