I hadn't heard of cranes til I stumbled across them on Bandcamp the other day. Their new stuff is too light/airy for my tastes, but these Peel Sessions from 1989-1990 that release in a few days-- the two songs up so far.. wow. I LOVE her voice.. the great kinda minimal music behind it, reminds me of Björk a little sometimes, but maybe with SLIGHTLY more edge and more 80s-ish guitar. Check it out, let me know what you think.
Still have no idea how to get followers on #mastodon. Teach me your ways! Follow me if you like #retrogaming, #80s / #90s#nostalgia, #tech / #cyber related stuff, and #dog pics! Keep me away from Twitter, I beg of you.
Nothing's Shocking, the first album by Jane's Addiction, is 35 years old. I saw the video for "Mountain Song" on 120 Minutes and bought the album on cassette the next day.
Between this album and Pretty Hate Machine by Nine Inch Nails (1989) I wore both cassettes out. I listened to Nothing's Shocking pretty much every day until Pretty Hate Machine came out, and then I listened to that one everyday. Side note: I spent my 39th birthday in 8th row at the NINJA tour featuring both bands after seeing them at the first Lollapalooza in 1991.
I feel old. 2) I feel like both albums hold up.
Happy 35th Nothing's Shocking. You're still brilliant.
Just watched the old 80s SciFi movie "Battle Beyond the Stars". I came across it while browsing recommendations on streaming.
There is a SciFi movie I watched on TV as a kid, early 80s, that I've been looking for, and I think this is the one. The listed Norwegian title on IMDB seems to match what I remember too.
It's actually quite enjoyable too. Pretty average overall, but a nice watch for a lazy Saturday. 😊
As I work today I'm listening to the soundtrack from the 1982 Conan the Barbarian film that was composed by Basil Poledouris. Things are feeling fairly barbaric at the moment here in the Arizona desert
Does anybody recognize this wallpaper? I'm helping my friend solve a #mystery . It's taken from the Finnish translation of Windows 95 for Dummies, which was published in 1998. We're thinking it's probably from the #90s or late #80s .
One of the open windows is Paint Shop Pro, so it may be related to that. For example, it might be a sample image from an old version of Paint Shop Pro. We don't have much else to go on.
The caption of the image translates to:
"The Windows wallpaper, which remains in the background when you open windows on the screen, can match the mood of the day."
My all-time favorite game is the original arcade version of Centipede. This 1982 commercial is for the Atari 5200 version, but it's epic and really nails the weird, frantic feel of the game.
This is a strange album. It feels self indulgent, hastily produced and lazy. A lot of caterwauling and carrying on. The KISS sample in the title track was cool to hear though.
For me, the only track I liked was their cover of “Beat On The Brat ''.
It’s really well done and was a welcome change from SY’s traditional sound.
