@RickiTarr Oh, my issues with getting coverage for health insurance. They fight you tooth and nail on everything. I can't count the hours I've spent and lawyer fees, just to get them to pay. Health insurance is an oxymoron and a crime against us.
“Chief Justice John #Roberts on Thursday declined an invitation to meet with Democratic senators to talk about Supreme Court ethics and the controversy over flags that flew outside homes owned by Justice Samuel #Alito.” #SCOTUS
@cyberlyra Gave up Google years ago because of this behavior. Glad I avoided it when they all decided to create AI to increase their spyware control of us. NextCloud is a wonderful alternative. There are a lot of wonderful open-source alternatives out there.
The cops who tortured a bogus murder "confession" out of a man -- even threatening to kill his dog along the way -- are still employed by the Fontana, Calif., police department. The city's taxpayers paid for the $900,000 lawsuit settlement.
@RickiTarr Twin Peaks killed the Soviet Union. Had Gorby been awake at the wheel, we still might have a Communist state in Russia today (I know it's not true, but still...).
DuckDuckGo, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT's web search, Ecosia, and Qwant all stopped working this morning because of Bing API. 😂 And they want Microsoft Copilot deeply integrated with Windows OS. Imagine someone is unable to book emergency medical appointments because Microsoft Copilot is down or you can't withdraw money or transfer funds through netbanking because AI and screenshot services are down. This is a good example of why we must not trust someone like Microsoft for anything serious.
@Daojoan Our education system has long since given up on teaching critical thinking skills. It's not useful to the state or its financial donors. They want mindless workers who will obey. And now that those same elites have created AI, they're busily going to replace us in the workforce, so as not to have to hear us complain about our lack of pay & benefits. We're being replaced, whether we want to face it or not. The people who own this country do not want us here. We're but a cost to them.
I could have sworn that they offered a free plan. Apparently, I either made that up in my head or they really don't. Or maybe it's hidden? IDK. Either way, back on the hunt for a blog host/CMS.
It's not as if I mind paying, but if I'm going to pay, then I might as well host it myself with wordpress.
The alarming maternal mortality rate for Black women in Louisiana is exacerbated by MAGA extremism and restrictive abortion laws. We must stop these Republicans and demand better for our communities. https://lailluminator.com/2024/04/06/pregnant-black/
Honestly all things considered 2024 is a great year to be depressed. I can just order pizza and a McFlurry at one time and I don’t even have to talk to anyone to do it. Magic
@taylorlorenz I have immense respect for Major Mann. It takes courage to do this. If only the entirety of our military-industrial complex reacted the same way.
Seriously heard someone saying they don't listen to many black artists, because they aren't really into rap. Bitch please, feel free to share songs from Black artists from any genre. Here is one of my favorites, if you like this song please check out her other work:
@RickiTarr I'm old and grew up with Motown. In the 70s, I absolutely loved The Commodores. I could be here all day covering their discography, but this is one of my favorites. Frankie Valli & The Commodores (with Lionel Richie), singing Grease with a disco vibe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QM2WV4c54R8
Does anyone know of a way to buy an EV that doesn't relentlessly spy on the driver/passengers and send the data to whoever the carmaker feels like selling it to?
Related: Does anyone know of a service in the Bay Area that will disable all the surveillance that was, without my knowledge or permission, built into a 2008 Prius?
This is funny. OpenAI, who scraped the entire internet to build its product, is now enforcing copyright via notices. They still don’t give credit for stealing content from everyone, yet now acting like holier-than-thou https://www.reddit.com/r/ChatGPT/comments/1cnvyzp/
@nixCraft Call AI for what it is. A creation of for-profit corporations to get around human labor to create more profits. Convenience is the excuse. Not having us to accumulate more cash for the big tech companies sponsoring this is the reason.
@nixCraft Like hiring a robber to be a bank security guard. OpenAI is a criminal enterprise, representing antitrust-violating monopolies, who are seeking to replace human labor under the guise of ‘innovation’ and ‘advancement.’ Notice, we’re not firing the CEOs. It’s the ad team at Google that gets it. That is the modus operandi of all of this, & the execs at OpenAI, never mind Microsoft, should be on a docket for this. If we don’t control this, the creators will use it to pauperize us.
Known liar and conspiracy theorist claimed “a doctor” said he had a brain worm in an attempt to hold on to his fortune during a divorce proceeding even though he was born rich.
@MrLovenstein As an old guy with kids, and who loves being a parent, I would never judge anyone who chose to be childless. Ultimately, it's a personal choice of the couple and no one else's business.
@itsfoss Each person has different needs, but assuming the newcomer to Linux has all of the basic applications/software preinstalled (browser, email client, office suite, etc.), and if you're using anything Debian or Ubuntu-based (since you're new to Linux), please, make sure to have Synaptic and gdebi installed. They will help you install software before you get the terminal figured out.
After 7 years of constant use, my HP Envy 15 laptop died.
I ran a lot of Fedora and Debian, and lately OpenBSD on it.
I still have my 2012 HP Pavilion, now running Debian 11 with Xfce. It's not very pleasant to use. Slow, hot and the fan blows like crazy.
I'll be leaning on my desktop, a 2011 iMac 27-inch with Debian 12 GNOME. It was synced with the dead laptop, so all the files are on there. Gotta make my "office" neater.
I will be getting a company laptop. That means Windows.
