I love this!

I use a similar approach, typically at bedtime when those intrusive thoughts are trying to keep me from sleeping.

My favorite (most common) topic area is swordplay - I'll visualize myself performing a complex sword form or performing a play from a medieval manuscript. I find that this mindful recollection of physical activity is usually what I need.

Been wanting a sewing machine for random stuff, but when I look online my eyes glaze over from TooMuchChoice™ and I close the browser tab.

Free sign on the side of the road was next to this and a coffee maker. It works ... well, motor does, I need to dig up some thread and stuff.

Wife and I:
M "Baby Lock?"
W “To make it safe around babies.”
M “I don't think so, this button doesn't stop anything”
W “huh"
M “Look, it's model BL9 ... I think that's the brand name”

SQLAllFather,
@SQLAllFather@techhub.social avatar

@jerzone

If I've picked up anything from listening to my wife for the past 30+ years Baby Lock is one of the good brands of sewing machines.

https://sewingandcrafts.net/baby-lock-bl9-review/

This site says "The Baby Lock BL9 Sewing Machine is a highly advanced and versatile machine that is perfect for both beginners and experienced sewers."

I assume that by saying it's great for all types of sewers is a polite way of saying "it's the shit."

...

I'll show myself out.

For my next video series¹, I'm hoping to bring a cozier and more conversational tone than the "standing up in front of my trinket-laden office IKEA shelves" approach I've used in recent videos. I'm not sure exactly how to get the "fireside chat" feel I'm looking for, but I don't think this is it.

I think I'll keep experimenting with lighting. I wish I knew more about lighting....

¹ Starting in January I plan to publish weekly videos covering some of the most common and most important advice I give as a mentor to to PM colleagues at Microsoft and to aspiring candidates who want to start a career in tech.

I give you 's failure to render visual color themes in its settings window, on . And thanks, @microsoft.

High-contrast visual themes are supported by the operating system and distributed with it, by default. Users can turn them on and off at need. Microsoft's own software should comply.

Thanks for sharing this problem! Power BI is committed to following accessibility standards, which include support for high-contrast themes. I’ve passed this on to the folks responsible for Power BI Desktop, and they’re looking into it.

    This is no doubt entirely the consequence of growing up on an Early Internet that was largely cynical male nerds, but it's amazing the extent to which nice comics about relationships have become popular! We all thought the Sunday Comics pages were sappy because editors insisted on it, but it's what the public wanted all along.

    Anyway, enjoy today's butt-plug/death comic on smbc.

    "Address terms" — the words we used to address people — are becoming more inclusive. For @TheConversationUS, linguist Scott F. Kiesling analyzes the different terms that are emerging, their origins ("dude" comes from the "doodle" part of "Yankee Doodle Dandy"), and why we can say gentlemen, but not ladies. Which do you think is the most inclusive address term for a group?

    Yeah, that policy reeks of gatekeeping and privilege. Ask good questions as many times as you need to, but also put in the work to get the most from the answers you receive.

    FWIW, I'm doing my best to make sure that this type of gatekeeping never finds its way into my team culture. Part of my "who we are" deck that I bring to team meetings every few months includes this "how we work" deck. I try to model this behavior in my daily behavior, but having it called out explicitly in writing is important too.

    Edit: TFW you've been using a slide for over a year and only notice that pesky typo after you've publicly shared a screen shot. 🤣

    I'm back from the vet this morning with an official adoption for Geuloush. He is a fully-grown male cat who has probably been abandoned by his former owners in the summer. 😡
    We put notices around our house in search of them, but failed to get any feedback. The poor thing was starving and in bad shape. After a month of care, he is now loving and healthy. 💜 He'll be neutered soon. He is an exact copy of Miolek our number 3 and here is a photo of them:
