Happy #FossilFriday. Here's my illustration of Williamsoniella coronata, a bisexual bennettitalean cone from the Middle #Jurassic of Yorkshire, England. This plant had a cone with both male (bright yellow outer) and female (inner cone) sections. #paleobotany#paleoart#plants
Switching to - showing y'all this wonderful volunteer #buttercrunch#lettuce plant that decided to grow out of rocks in our front yard! What a lovely #edible surprise 😊
A 23-year study found that barley grown under organic farming conditions developed unique genetic adaptations, enhancing resilience to nutrient and water deficiencies.
Unlike conventionally farmed barley, which became genetically uniform, organic barley maintained genetic diversity, aiding adaptation to environmental changes.
Apparently that's what this is in my apartment's front yard (according to iNaturalist).
I'm thrilled that so far my landlord has made no progress toward cleaning up the wildness of the yard -- so many volunteers, things growing willy-nilly, it's wonderful.
She apologized when I moved in but I made it ultra-clear, no, I LOVE it this way. Wild is good, in my book.
The foxgloves are really going crazy this year. Fun fact: These are called Fingerhüte (thimbles, literally "finger hats") in German. But you probably shouldn't use them as thimbles 🌺 ☠️.
Trinidad #ScorpionPepper & #CarolinaReaper - 2 of the #HotPeppers varieties that I'm growing this year. I only have 4 of each plant. All are inside my DIY scrap wood greenhouse.
