Canada anemone (Anemone canadensis).

This was one of the 1st I IDed. Was completely unknown to me & that brilliant white drew me in. After many to attempts photograph, I realized that shadows or overcast skies made it easier to catch the delicate texture in the petal.

Taken photos of it in the field but this is a plant I put in last yr (no blooms last yr). This is one of this year's blooms 👍.

A gold and purple iris in my friend's garden. I never really paid attention to iris beards before and didn't realize they has such amazing color patterns.

Closeup photograph of an iris beard. The beard is made up of filaments and looks similar to a fuzzy caterpillar or the tendrils of a sea anemone. The beard colors transition from purple, white and yellow at the front to yellow only at the rear.

This flowering bush is along a route to a friend's house. It's populated by a small flock of house sparrows pretty much yr round & I catch a lot of sparrow pics there. Don't know that I've seen it in bloom before but appears to be a type of spiraea.

One of those flowering shrubs that has tiny little white flowers that look lovely but are far more delicate & intricate when you take a closer look.

Not sure its the same pair but a pair built their nest in this exact same location last yr. Its on some rock fill along the Iowa River & right next to the Iowa River Trail in Coralville, Iowa. Was fortunate to get a good view of the nest when she chose to stand up & turn her eggs as well as scrounge the surrounding rocks for something to eat. Unfortunately, in the city it is not usual to see wildlife incorporate human detritus in their nests 🙁.

Been home bound by garden chores but decided to go for a walk yesterday. I went to try something I've wanted to try for a while: catch some purple martins in flight at a martin condo up the street. While martins can turn on a dime their flight patterns back to the condo are similar. All it takes is patience & some luck.

They seemed fine w/ me there so next time I'll try to get closer. More pics to follow.

This is wild hyacinth or Camassia scilloides (according to the vender). It's an eastern US native. Planted it last fall & was excited to see it this spring. Must've assumed it was the size of a typical garden hyacinth cause I wasn't expecting it to get so large in the 1st yr. Love the subtle purplish grey petals combined w/ the bright yellow anthers. Going to have to grab more of these 👍.

Been so busy w/ my garden that I haven't had much time to take pics. When I'm that busy I often go back through my catalog & re-edit old pics or edit old pics I never used.

This pic is from 2023. That year there were hundreds of bald eagles along my stretch of the Iowa River. I never edited this photo because the angle was "strange" (I was nearly directly below) & I had tons of eagle photos to choose from.
