I was erring to the side of fuck it, I'll just make looping videos, but oh my god that's no simpler. Just convert the files, download Blender, learn to use it, set up your scene, lights, camera, and animation!
Turns out I had already started working on getting an Open Source USDZ view working last time I tried to do this. I now have it working. But I am not happy!
Obviously, for what is ultimately a client-side script, you're gonna need NodeJS, TypeScript, and… NINE HUNDRED AND I-SHIT-YOU-NOT THREE dependencies.
And it loads a bunch of Google tracking spyware. Nice!
Una pregunta a la comunidad arqueológica que utiliza linux. ¿Qué programa de fotogrametría usáis?
A question to the archaeological community using linux, what photogrammetry software do you use? #arqueología#archaeology#fotogrametría#photogrammetry#linux
Comprising the stone ruins of at least 22 rectangular buildings and a corn-drying kiln with associated stone-walled enclosures and fields, Craignavar was deserted in around 1820. It's unknown whether it was part of the forced Highland Clearances or just a voluntary departure due to economic reasons.
It occurs to me that, since the demise of Twitter and the half-hearted move to Mastodon, most of my communication on social media is only with people I know. My brain is currently actively calculating if this is a good or a bad thing.
I do miss old Science Twitter, however. Is that still a thing here or elsewhere in another form? Is everyone partying without me? Leads welcomed. #Science#SciComm
Going to start exploring aerial #photogrammetry using a #UAV in the #melange zone of a glacier in #Greenland- probably processing using @OpenDroneMap - would love to hear tutorial, expert help, literature suggestions on this...
There's this building in Pompeii, around coordinates 40.7504, 14.4892 - if you search it on google street view you'll see something like this.
The portico paintings are beautiful, but when I was there the little sculpture on the wall caught my eye - and at the time, there was nothing covering it so I was able to make a good capture.

In this story @dominicnahr and Jonas Roth visited an apartment block in Zaporizhzhia, #Ukraine, that got damaged by a Russian missile. Dominic used #photogrammetry to scan the apartments which I then recreated using #blender.
Very happy that this collaboration with @adinarenner, Alex Kräuchi and Franco Gervasi got the recognition it deserves.
@ai6yr In the spirit of obsessing about random stuff on the internet - here is an overview of all the retouched 3D Buildings/Bridges/Airplanes/etc... I could find within one hour in the region around Zurich.
Totally not an exhaustive list of course.
#Photogrammetry scan of some old equipment in a little park area behind the #Erie Art Museum. Not sure what it is! If anyone has an idea feel free to contribute! Digitized using an iPhone 14 Pro using #scaniverse.
"Alveus XR is the first online repository of historically themed 3D models. We incorporate collections of high-quality scientific virtual reconstructions to facilitate the disclosure of the past, and we enable 3D design professionals to use rigorous historical assets in their reconstructions, video games, or animated films.
Our historical objects (or assets) are organized into civilizations and these, in turn, are subdivided into collections. Each collection of assets refers to a specific cultural context (the Roman port; the Renaissance winery; etc.) and they organize the different 3D historical objects from our collection. These collections are not closed sets but rather groups of objects that will grow progressively as new pieces are added."
