THE FEELIES
Crazy Rhythms
2009 U.S. remastered reissue

Although I do like & appreciate the Feelies albums that followed, none captured the frenetic, wild spirit of Crazy Rhythms.
It’s one of those singular lightning-in-a-bottle type records; musical chemistry hitting its high at the right place and time.
The Boy With The Perpetual Nervousness is one of my fave album openers ever, and if Fa Cé-La doesn’t get you moving, you’re dead inside.

Urgh! A Music War (Soundtrack) - 1981

One of the first real new wave rock albums that opened my eyes to new bands and music exploration beyond what was on the radio or popular at school.

The film is all live performances recorded around 1980, mainly in London, Portsmouth, San Diego, Los Angeles, Santa Monica and New York. My buddy had the video (VHS!) so we’d watch it regularly throughout the early 80s.

The soundtrack came out a year before the film and was packaged as a double album gatefold. It’s got some great performances, and the sound quality is solid.

It’s where I first heard Klaus Nomi, Pere Ubu, and Magazine.

It’s got my favorite version of The Police doing "Driven to Tears", and an amazing performance by The Cramps, doing their version of “Tear It Up”.

The B-52’s release their second LP, “Wild Planet”

Sophomore albums are rarely as good as the first one, but damn, this is about as close as you can get to repeating unbelievable success and cool music.

Recorded in the Bahamas like its predecessor, this follow up delivers more of the band’s signature sound; retro-kitsch, bouncy beats, quirky hooks, and first-class vocals from Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson.

Some real classics on this one, including “Quiche Lorraine,” “Dirty Back Road” and the immortal “Private Idaho”. But it’s another album you should just play from start to finish.

This week's Tune Tuesday from @Kitty has a theme of "Songs About History" from @VestigialLung.

Since I haven't done a TMBG song for these in a minute and, frankly, it's the first one that come to mind - let's all have a lesson on the single term President, by choice, James Knox Polk.

Napoleon of the Stump.

Young Hickory.

Song of the Day - No 448

JOY DIVISION - SHE'S LOST CONTROL

Released in 1979 on Joy Division's groundbreaking debut album Unknown Pleasures, "She's Lost Control" is a stark and powerful exploration of epilepsy and loss of self-determination. Its driving rhythm, Ian Curtis's haunting vocals, and the song's evocative lyrics make it a post-punk masterpiece.
