    @shayz0rz Can you retain its benefits by just using the browser version? I limit my social media use to my computer. My phone is intentionally antisocial so I actually read books instead of read posts ๐Ÿ˜‚

    I'm under Anything but Xitter. I mostly post here and sometimes cross post to Bluesky, but it's a little rough going since I only have 30 followers there and very little engagement. The drama is also more unhinged than Twitter since the active users are Twitter's most terminally online (see: ACAB Dril drama) ๐Ÿ™„

    Unlike some Fedi purists, I don't think Mastodon is the one and only platform. I like the people I've met here but it still can't replace a lot of what I used Twitter for 1/๐Ÿงต

    There's a debate whether you can learn how to write fiction through #fanfic sites like #AO3

    One side says you can't learn shit from it because it emphasizes visual cues too much as if you were watching a TV show, and another side says it should be valued because that's the most accessible way to get into a writing community.

    Ima be all "both sides" on this one. After more than a decade writing fanfic I can say it helped me on some aspects but not all. Sometimes it can hurt.

    In the middle of rewriting a #horror #ShortStory I wrote a decade ago. Looks like the word count will be reduced by a third and easier to send to submissions.

    Honestly I can't read through the original one anymore, it feels way too long now. I padded my old stories with dialogue because that was my comfort zone. Now it has nearly no dialogue and it's distilled to its purest form of weird insanity.

    I'm locally infamous for writing a Bonifacio x Aguinaldo hatefuck ๐Ÿ’€ Gonna try my hand at the paying genre market this year and be a bit more legit.

    AO3 made me very comfortable with dialogue and smut but my atmospheric prose is zilch, which is why I'm catching up on horror. I want to write like Nathan Ballingrud ๐Ÿ˜ข

    1. Green Mars by #KimStanleyRobinson (1993) - 2nd book of a trilogy on how #Mars colonization would actually go down. Think underground scientist communes, multinational mining corpos, abused space migrant labour. It's dense but KSR is one of the best living scifi authors.

    2. Everfair by Nisi Shawl (2016) - #steampunk #AltHistory of armed resistance against King Leopold II in the late 1800s. Love the premise, but not loving the detached prose. 1/๐Ÿงต

    @insanebatguy If you write an intro post with a bunch of hash tags of your interests, people will find you easier and boost the post. Since there's no algorithm discovery is basically all hash tag surfing and snooping around on people's profiles ๐Ÿ˜… What sort of music are you into?

    also, what do you consider as nu metal? i'm an older millennial who grew up with Korn, Disturbed, and Nu-Metal being relatively mainstream so I still feel traumatized from that era. I do still appreciate Gary Numan's take on nu-metal/NIN-style industrial rock though.

    For the folks not aware of , they're the Philippines' biggest boy band. I'd say they have a level of versatility that's close to BTS since they have a great rap line AND great vocals. Their live vocal performances on the Wish Bus are insanely good.

    They started the movement, which is Filipino pop that is partly informed by with the emphasis on high budget M/Vs, choreography, photocards, etc.

    Small introduction after my move here...

    I'm and old metal head that likes hip-hop too and got into kpop and jpop in the last few years. Yeah, it's strange. And I even like classic rock, soul and blues too.

    When I'm not maintaining my music collection I probably play video games on PS5 and Switch. Most of the time RPGs or action adventures. Right now it's NieR Replicant.

    Professionally I only do boring office work, nothing to talk about :)

    I hate fascists, racists, homophobes, TERFs...

    @sariash omg YouTube was my gateway too. Kpop is also huge in the Philippines, I swear there's a kpop concert every week, so it's easier to talk to normal people about it. I was chilling in my darkwave/post-punk corner and then Mamamoo and Dreamcatcher infiltrated my brain and I'm afraid there is no turning back.

    @sariash I never got into watching the variety stuff, but the M/Vs, outfits, and charisma were amazing. I never cared too much for pop music before but the concepts, experimentation, and the whole package really grabbed me.

    I saw Mamamoo in February and goddamn they're even better in person, I don't know how it's possible. All their voices are unreal. And WHEEIN COVERING SOLAR'S HONEY IS EVERYTHING.

    @sariash Oh yeah I deffo don't know anything about western pop music. Tiktok doesn't exist to me lol. My top 10 listened to artists on last.fm doesn't have a single western pop artist on it.
