My thought on Neuralink implanting tech in human heads for the first time:
Brain implants are one of those technologies where the MTBF for the implant MUST exceed the MTBF of the implantee. And there must be lifetime after-sales support, Or else the execs who made the decision to pull support should go to prison for the rest of their lives.
Elon lied about the monkeys — and he shouldn't be trusted to put his Neuralink chips in human brains.
"They are claiming they are going to put a safe device on the market, and that's why you should invest," Ryan Merkley at the Physicians Committee, told Wired. "And we see his lie as a way to whitewash what happened in these exploratory studies."
Really heartbreaking reading what happened to the monkeys.
People quite rightly think of Elizabeth Holmes as a fraud for making false medical claims about what the Theranos machines could do. So why aren't Elon's claims at Neuralink being held to the same level of scrutiny?
NEW: Elon Musk’s brain-chip startup conducted years of tests at #UCDavis, a public university. A WIRED investigation reveals how #Neuralink and the university keep the grisly images of its botched — and sometimes unlawful — surgeries hidden. (TW: graphic descriptions)
I can't wait until I have to root my brain chip to gain superuser perms to be able to ADB remove the Amazon ads that auto trigger when I wake up at 2am to pee.
BREAKING: Federal lawmakers demand an #SEC probe into whether Elon Musk committed securities fraud after WIRED stories shed doubt on his claims about the health and wellbeing of #Neuralink's animal test subjects.
No one should be surprised when this man, who claims AI is “one of the biggest threats to humanity,” steadfastly unleashes predictions to his own dire rhetoric on the world.
"Elon Musk unveils Grok, an AI chatbot with a ‘rebellious streak’"
I've been thinking with empathy about the quality of life a person would have to have in order to allow Elon Musk to put an experimental chip in your head. When we are looking at these stories, let's remember the serious lack of support for #disabled people in our country, both on a societal level and in terms of the dwindling social safety net. It's not surprising that a person would feel tempted to reach for a dangerous tech tool, even one with such horrifying potential consequences. #ElonMusk#Neuralink
“Secrecy is given top priority, not merely because of the proprietary research being conducted at the center, but also out of fear that the public will respond poorly—perhaps violently—to images of the macaques being experimented on.”
New from WIRED: the horiffic story of how monkeys at Elon Musk’s brain implant company Neuralink died. Musk has claimed no animals died due to the implants, but medical records seem to contradict this
“Staff observed that though she was uncomfortable, picking and pulling at her implant until it bled, she would often lie at the foot of her cage and spend time holding hands with her roommate”
so Apartheid Clyde IS paying for the anti-abortion laws in Texas & harassment of Black students in public schools. he's got Abbot and Paxton as his puppets
he is in Texas because he & his buddies want to do #Neuralink experiments on humans and he knows the way to do so is in a state were citizens do not have body autonomy, especially if imprisoned.
if he isn't already doing it, he will do so soon with prison slaves in Texas.
After this was revealed, #Musk stopped allowing any oversight of the clinical trials.
...Animal 15 began to lose coordination and staff observed that she would shake uncontrollably when she saw lab workers. Her condition deteriorated for months until the staff finally euthanized her. A necropsy report indicates that she had bleeding in her brain and that the #Neuralink implants left parts of her cerebral cortex “focally tattered.”...
I've posted articles on other #biological implants whose companies have folded leaving the recipients with no support or access to maintenance or repair because they're closed, proprietary systems and intellectual property, and are sometimes left in worse condition than before receiving the devices.
I believe I'd rather suffer or die than trust anything involving Musk.
Every time I see some reference to #ElonMusk's #Neuralink project, I think about all those #dystopian#cyberpunk novels I read in the '80s and '90s. It will be interesting to see what comes of it. In the meantime, enjoy this mediaeval dig at his hubris:
