A friend taught me about this thing called step recording using #Reaper. I can use this to make custom sounds for my programs. Is there some sosrt of person who is teaching this? #Blind, #MusicProduction
A couple of people have asked, since my recent instance change, about what I'm playing - musically speaking. Recently, I've been just messing around for a couple of hours, no more than 3-4 takes, and no previous idea of what I was going to do. Usually on a Sunday morning. As you can imagine it can vary in success widely but I'm also trying to learn how to record myself, get better at playing, everything really ... Here is a recent one.
I found this track among dozens of tracks I made from the early 90s. It doesn't have a name so I can't find the DAW work file easily. This was digitized off a four-track. I used hardware synths but I don't recall which ones. (Is there a way to find out the synth model from sysex dump?)
The question is should I try to recover these lost tracks I made and clean up and record them digitally and release them?
👆 Oooo. Maybe what I do is... Release it as a Lime Bar retro album called Soma Holiday.
I like this.
@MusicProduction question. Supposing I can't find the files or don't have the necessary synth h/w to get a new clean digital recording... What's the best approach to cleanup the existing files digitized from 4-track cassette. You can hear tape hiss, definitely some muddy bass freqs, and other tape effects.
What processing would you apply. I've never done a rescue.
Here's an update on my upcoming album The Mechanics of Mysticism, wherein I discuss why it's taken me more than a year, where I'm at and some of what's left before it's finished.
If you're involved in electronic music-making and you're not white, please DM me on here.
I've just been watching loads of #SuperBooth footage and was aghast at how overwhelmingly white the whole thing is. I've seen more diversity at EDL marches.
So, I'm gonna try and do something about it. And the first thing is organising.
Does anyone else maintain #changelog (s) for their #computer (s)?
I enter all configuration adjustments and #update (s) in a #markdown file for each machine.
This might seem like unnecessary extra work, but has paid off several times for the sake of traceability or #reproducibility in the past. 🤓 #musicproduction#linuxaudio
44100 Hz or 48000 Hz for #musicproduction?
Personally I usually go with 48000 Hz because it somehow feels more "natural" to me than 44100 Hz (as half of 96000 Hz or a quarter of 192000 Hz). Made my life easier a few times when I wanted to #compose#music for #movies too. #daw#linuxaudio
"Weeklybeats is a 52 week long music project in which artists compose and publicly release 1 song a week for the entire year. Starting January 1st 2024 GMT each participant will have one week to upload one finished composition. Any style of music or selection of instruments are welcomed and encouraged."
My submission for week 21 of #WeeklyBeats is a goofy euphoric #synthpop track for a sunny day, with lots of arpeggios (hence the name), filter sweeps and a medium amount of chaos.
