What #buffersize / #blocksize do you use in your #daw? #musicproduction #linuxaudio #linux
I usually go with 1024 samples and switch to lower values when recording.

I like to let new plugins age for 3-5 years after I buy them before I try them. Makes them sound better.

Damn I wish Pro Tools would default to exporting as the session format so i didn't have to check it every time.

After doing #WeeklyBeats basically #DAWless for five months, working in the #DAW again feels more like work than play.

That being said: There is so much more information available at a glance. You can just click on things instead of menu-diving. You have a lot more CPU and RAM available. The effects sound 10× better.

Also, while the gets confused when changing the length of a currently playing clip about half of the time, in in about 95 % of the cases it just works, flawlessly, even when changing the beginning, or dragging the loop away from the playhead.

I'm having a ball with some music software called RipX DAW (proprietary, Win/Mac only, sorry). It does an amazing job of separating the different instruments from a recording, and it can translate any of those parts into MIDI. The possibilities are immense!

So musicians of Mastodon, should I create a Lemmy community for all things audio and recording? Would that be popular there?

mxtthxw,
@mxtthxw@mxtthxw.art avatar

@tiredhorizon I've not used it tbh but I was never into Reddit either.

But might work for others so I'll shut up!

Obviously if you want to get the best from a vintage U67 microphone you need to play everything through a megaphone for that rich warm sound.

Audio developers; Just know that if the blurb for your software says anything about AI I will assume you're a scammer and be ignoring you.

It took me nearly all afternoon and ALL of my drug-assisted Executive Function, but I finally have my music up on Mirlo!

KydiaMusic,

In addition to Mirlo, I intend to get my music up on Faircamp, Funkwhale, Jam Co-op, etc.

But it took more time than I expected to get established on Mirlo, so when I went to the Faircamp site and saw a completely different setup that looks even more complicated, my brain was like NOPE. DRUGS ALL GONE. NOT ENOUGH BRAINS LEFT FOR TASK. :AAAAAA:

But I’ll get there. Eventually. :catPOWER:

I have put together a set of instructions for configuring/tuning Fedora Workstation for low latency audio work. The instructions are not original—everything comes from other sources smarter than me. But to my knowledge, it is the most complete set of instructions for Fedora Workstation users available today. If anyone is interested, the instructions can be found here:

So my trust old Livid Instruments CTRL-R is starting to get very buggy, last night's gig was a pain! A friend has lend me a BRC2000 which hopefully does the trick. Is anyone here using one with Ableton?

Up for chatting about a couple of things!

Just spend an extra £150 if you want a cheap version of the 1073 and get the Warm Audio one ffs. The AMS Neve one is 1500.

You dont need the stereo version if you're in a project/home studio. You're probably only recording one thing at a time.
