TLDR: Now that #Spotify offers audiobooks, they're only paying songwriters based on 50% of their revenue, even though music is still the main offering (and probably the majority of listener hours). So a collective representing composers' rights is suing.
If you care about building a music library you can listen to for years to come, don't use Spotify, and buck against the trend of exploitative streaming services. Learn about where to get DRM-free audio on our DRM-free living guide: https://u.fsf.org/1lr#EndDRM#BoycottSpotify#Spotify
Just found out that Spotify have secretly introduced new “Basic” plans which just removes access to audio books and drops the monthly cost a little bit.
Worth looking at if you’re like me and use Spotify but aren’t the slightest bit interested in audio books on their platform.

Spotify’s Changing Royalty Rates Could Lose Songwriters and Publishers Millions
It's hard out there for a musician, man.
"'It appears Spotify has returned to attacking the very songwriters who make its business possible,' said David Israelite, the NMPA’s president and CEO [...] 'Spotify’s attempt to radically reduce songwriter payments by reclassifying their music service as an audiobook bundle is a cynical, and potentially unlawful, move [...] We will not stand for their perversion of the settlement we agreed upon in 2022.'"
