(And that’s from a development build of a Domain page, not a deployment build so no compression, live reload script in page, etc.)
Turns out it’s pretty easy to ace such tests when you’re not spending cycles and code doing horrible things to people in your web pages (like tracking their every move and attempting to exploit their behaviour for profit). 🤔
For those WordPress peeps who have thrown their hands up in the air and cursed the Automattic gods for not including an ARIA label in the search input field and, therefore, can't get a 100 on the Lighthouse Accessibility score, here is your solution. Hail to the Fresnel lens, "the invention that saved a million ships."
The Fresnel lens is named after its inventor Augustin-Jean Fresnel (10 May 1788 – 14 July 1827), French civil engineer and physicist, a pioneer in the development of the wave theory of light.
This captures a moment just before I learnt something important.
I learnt that a 360 camera is NOT a good choice for capturing the glorious sight of a rainbow at sea. It's there, if you look really closely, but.... aye...
Nice planet sphere though, and an excellent foghorn.
On our recent travels we visited a lighthouse. I LOVE lighthouses. They're always in these amazing spots, and the buildings sit so pleasingly in the landscape. And they help stop boats crashing into rocks too, obvs.
I sit on the walls, look out to sea, and imagine what it would be like to be a lighthouse keeper.
I found https://buildexcellentwebsit.es extremely insightful and inspiring! It pushed me to finally completely restructure my personal website’s #CSS, after many years of mess.
Unfortunately, though, I find the massive use of all those calc() and clamp() functions to be quite heavy in terms of performance… #Lighthouse gave the website a very bad performance score (see screenshot). It even seems that while scrolling the page it lags (😳) even if it’s super simple and built with pure #HTML and CSS!
Do you have any ideas or suggestions? 🤔

It was "National Lighthouse Day" in the US yesterday, so I thought it'd be great to post a photo of the UK's most northerly lighthouse (and island) from our recent trip to Shetland.
